please run talkback and copy the incident id to this report.
The only version I have that works is "Pigfoot's", and 3rd party builds can't have the Talkback if I remember correctly, so...
Now that I think about it, it WAS the "official" "installer" build which caused the problem, and I did have Talkback checked, but I don't think Talkback ever even came up, it just crashed out with a fizzle. I'll check again and if anything will post it here.
fwiw, third parties can provide pdbs in which case you can point me to a .dmp (drwtsn32 generated is fine) plus those pdbs. but if we're playing w/ a talkback enabled build, then let's find out why talkback isn't working :).
Trying to reproduce with a new nightly build. Was also caught up in a parsing error with nightly build which might have gone by by now. May take a bit. I think once in a while, it choked when running the filter, and right now there is nothing there to filter.
Just crashed again with version 1.0+ (20050523) and Talkback wasn't there. This was an "official" installer version. In fact, I think there was a Talkback error on install. (I've done so many lately trying to get a stable, working version that I've lost track). Any recommendations on what to try?
This might be a duplicate to 263714.
Version: unspecified → Trunk
I can confirm multiple crashes, if I edit filters. I've allready sended talkback reports. Running latest builds on Windows XP SP2. This bug is not present for me in the 1.0 Final release.
I find that it crashes almost every time I edit a filter. The only times it doesn't is if I open the program, go right to the filter, edit it, close it, and quit the program. Although, ... this time it crashed when RUNNING the filter. I wish I could get a Talkback version working to send you the data.
Can someone please change the "Target Milestone" to Thunderbird 1.1? It says only the owner or submitter or something can change it. I thought I was the submitter, but oh well. Thanks.
Severity: major → blocker
setting the target milestone would imply someone is working on it (and ideally that someone understands the problem). this is clearly not the case. what kind of talkback error? i don't suppose you're willing to try a mozilla suite nightly instead?

I thought target meant it was targeted to be fixed for that particular build. I tried a "patrocles" "installer or .exe" build, and it says the talkback agent doesn't exist. Just did another one now (roughly 12:40 Eastern time).

Summary: editing filters causes crash → editing filters causes crash [@ Detecting]
Can someone confirm this bug as a blocker please?
Depends on: 280234
> 2. Add new criteria (hit + sign) Hitting plus does nothing here... > 3. Enter criteria. Creating a new filter, or editing an existing filter? > 4. Close edit and filter boxes. Via which method? I tried adding a new filter with a newsgroup account, clicked "OK" in the "Filter Rules" dialog, then clicked the [x] on the titlebar of the "Message Filters" dialog. This didn't crash in a current trunk Thunderbird. So could someone please give clear directions on what I'd have to do to reproduce this with a brand-new Thunderbird profile (which this is) which can do newsgroups and RSS but not POP/IMAP? Note that I don't really use Thunderbird, so please make the steps very detailed and explicit if you can (things like "Click the button that says 'run filter'" are better than "run the filter", for example).
I still haven't been able to reproduce this crash yet.
Now noticing some filters work, and others don't. One which doesn't is titled "no new properties" (it is to put real estate list messages into one folder). It has several different criteria to look for, but it is only working on one or two criteria.
Just crashed again. I hit the edit button, and it crashed as soon as I hit the button. It didn't even bring up edit info. version 1.0+ (20050525)
Please recc me when there are steps to reproduce starting with a clean profile...
Just got a talkback, but no incident ID, and it says it can't connect to server. (P.S. It crashed again at 12:01 or so.)
(In reply to comment #21) > Just got a talkback, but no incident ID, and it says it can't connect to server. > (P.S. It crashed again at 12:01 or so.) Apparently there was a problem on Mozilla's end. The first talkback ID on this is TB6331390H. This is with a newly downloaded Thunderbird installer version version 1.0+ (20050531).
Just crashed again. Incident ID: TB6331452E Try this to reproduce: Go into filters, edit, run filters, edit a different one, run filters, and so on until it crashes. Crashes it every time, but no rhyme or reason to the consistency yet. Can we get this confirmed yet?
yes, dup. Can you still reproduce this with today's trunk build? *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 242600 ***

This crash just occurs with the nightly builds (Thunderbird 1.0+) I'm not able to reproduce this bug with the 1.0 final release, so I cannot believe, that this is a dup of bug242600
you don't need a patch to mark a bug as a dup...if you mean, why did I think it might possibly be fixed, there's patch in bug 266905, but it turns out that timeless was just guessing about the cause of the crash, incorrectly as near as I can tell, because I can still reproduce the problem after his patch. The problem is not that the filter list pointer is null, but rather, the filter list has been deleted. Which implies a ref-counting problem. I'll re-open this bug but I'm not convinced they're not dupes.
Status: RESOLVED → UNCONFIRMED
Resolution: DUPLICATE → ---
Still "unconfirmed"?
There's nothing in bug 242600 that says it can be reproduced in tbird 1.0 - just mozilla 1.8a1, which is different. I'm re-marking this as a dup. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 242600 ***
