I'm assuming you're using a TB 1.0.x, rather than a trunk build.  Several bugs 
with parsing RSS feeds have been fixed since that branch, and when I add that 
feed to my RSS account, it initializes with 150 items, all of which are 
accessible.

Download a nightly (which may well have other bugs) at:
  ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-trunk/
or wait for TB 1.1 to be released.
