In 1.8b1, email filtering for IMAP worked fine. Now in Mozilla 1.8b2 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050522 filtering fails with an error message that says Applying filter "filter name" failed. Would you like to continue applying filters?" [OK] [cancel] Attempting to edit the failing filters causes a crash.

Same bug as bug 296141? Nelson, do you have a Talkback incident ID?

This bug occurs when I select Tools->"Run Filters on Folder" on the IMAP inbox. The dialog cited above appears for one of the filters for the inbox. When I click OK, the next filter appears, and so on. If I click cancel, and then try again, I get the same dialogs for the same filter names again. I checked the file containing the filters. They are all there. The crash occurs only when I attempt to edit the filters. I doubt this is the same bug as 296141. That bug talked about a "target" folder missing. I don't know if he meant the folder to which the filters were being applied, or the folders to which the filtered messages would be moved. But in my case, all those folders exist. The inbox exists. The folders to which the messages would be filtered exist (on the IMAP server). When I send a talkback, I don't get a talkback ID, and it seems that the talkback web pages provide no way to search on talkback IDs by email address. But I can make this happen at will, so if there's any info I can collect that will help identify it, I'm willing to do it again.

Nelson: grep your directories for "talkback.exe" and find the most recent incident. You can context-click and paste the incident ID into http://talkback-public.mozilla.org. Thanks!

talkback.exe showed nothing. But a search through talkback-public.m.o for the string filter in the last 10 days revealed these: http://talkback-public.mozilla.org/talkback/fastfind.jsp?search=2&type=iid&id=6273091 http://talkback-public.mozilla.org/talkback/fastfind.jsp?search=2&type=iid&id=6274157

Technutz, Does bug 242600 also duplicate the report that the imap filters all fail when running filters on the imap inbox? (doens't look like it to me)

We can reopen this one and let it stand for the "applying filters fails" portion, however the newer stack traces in 242600 are the same as yours, and we can't have 2 issues per bug. Your call, I was just taking care of the worse problem, the crash.

Changing the Summary to narrow this bug to the failure of each and every filter when I attempt to apply my filters to my IMAP inbox. Note that the filters seem to work OK when new email arrives in the inbox. It's only when I "Run Filters On folder" that I get all these dialogs, one for each filter (apparently).
