User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4

I am not sure if this is a problem with Firefox Download Manager or Firefox
plug-in or file-type handling.

I am having problems during downloading with the download manager not allowing
me to specify that I want to open a file using "x" application instead of saving
it to my hard drive. The "file type" doesn't show the file type extensions of
plug-ins I have downloaded, such as Windows Media Player, QuickTime, Macromedia
Flash, etc.

A particular example of this problem relates to the above-referenced website,
which is a page of Windows Media Player files. I have Firefox's plug-in,
Windows Media Player, installed. However, when I went to the above site, it
would only give me the option to download the files, not to "open" them in
Windows Media Player. The option to "open" was greyed-out; in fact, all options
except "save to hard drive" are greyed out. Although I have downloaded Firefox
plug-ins like Windows Media Player, the only "file type" under "plug-in" listed
is for .tiff files. I do not have the option of adding 'use Windows Media
Player to open file type .wmv" as it doesn't give me that option; it gives me no
options. However, the file will download to my desktop, then appear as a
Windows Media Player file, and I can play it.

This has happened on other websites as well.

I am unable to edit my plug-ins under "file type" in any way. They are
installed, and the browser has been closed and reopened after installing, but it
doesn't allow me to select file types or input file types and state how I want
them handled (what application to use to open them), and the plug-in manager
doesn't put the info in there for me.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to the above website. (or others; I could find more examples)
2. Select one of the files.
3. Download manager only gives me the option to "save to disk" not to "open
with X application"
4. I download file to desktop.
5. File appears on my desktop as a Windows Media File.
6. I open file on my desktop (it automatically defaults to Windows Media
Player) with no problem.
7. File should have given me the option to "open with Windows Media Player" in
website.

Actual Results:
File showed up on desktop and I was able to play it with Windows Media Player.
However when I looked under Firefox/Preferences/Downloads/File Types/Plug-Ins,
it does not list wmv as a file type and does not allow me to edit and add it.

Expected Results:
I should have been given the option, at time of download, to "Open With" X
application, instead of only having the option of "Save to Disk"
I can't find a .wmv on the page.

Content-Type: video/x-ms-wmv is the corect mime type setting on the server for
Firefox to play the file.

Summary: During download, doesn't show "file type" under Firefox/Preferences/File Type and doesn't show Plug-in. → kokoro-dreams.co.jp - needs to fix .htaccess mime types
I should add that this does not happen with all file types at the
above-referenced URL. I just discovered it handles Real Player file types fine.

1. At the same URL above, when I select the movie entitled "Gasosaurus"

1a. (optional step) (to go directly to URL for that link, see
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie6.html),

2. when I click Download, it gives me the option to "Open with"

3. I pick Real Player.

4. I checked the box "always handle files of this type in this manner" (sorry I
do not have exact language).

5. File immediately opened in Real Player instead of me having to wait for the
entire file to download onto my desktop and then manually open it.

6. Now under Firefox>Preferences>Downloads>File Types> it lists "RA Real Audio
- Open with RealPlayer app"

7. Therefore it becomes unclear because apparently the URL handles the Real
Audio file type normally.

8. Is it just a problem with Windows Media Player files on that URL?

9. Firefox continues to show only one "File Type" for me: the newly added "RA
Real Audio Open with RealPlayer.app" under Firefox>Preferences>Downloads>File Types.

10. Can anyone reproduce a successful "open with 'x' app" of the
above-referenced Real Audio file, while at the same time being unable to "open
with 'x' app" any Windows Media Player files on that URL?

Forgot to say I am using Firefox 1.0.4

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511

http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/realmovie/gaso/gaso.rm is served as Content-Type:
audio/x-pn-realaudio which is the correct mime type. This allows you to set an
do this allways option.

Reply:

Each link on the page (orignally referenced URL) will take you to a separate
page. On those pages, you will find the .wmv files.

For example, the very first link on the originally referenced URL will take you
to this URL: http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie10.html

On that URL, http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie10.html, you will see a button
that says "Download now." That button, "Download now," references another link,
which is the .wmv file, as URL
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/WMV/actroid-der/actroid-der.wmv.

You will have to follow the same procedure on all the other links on the
originally referenced URL.

Reply:

There is no http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/moviej.html; the originally
referenced URL is http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/indexj.htm.

Any idea why, even though the Content-Type as specified above as being the
correct mime type setting on the server for both "video/x-ms-wmv" and
"audio/x-pn-realaudio", why does it allow me to set a "do this always" option
for the .rm file on URL http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/realmovie/gaso/gaso.rm
(retrieved from URL http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie6.html), yet not allow
me to set a "do this always" option for the .wmv file on URL
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/WMV/actroid-der/actroid_der.wmv (retrieved from
URL http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie1.html)?

With the same URLs as in the preceding paragraph, why does it grey out all
options except "Save to Disk" for the referenced .wmv file (and all .wmv files
which can be accessed via the orginally referenced URL as explained in Comment
#6), yet allow me both the "Save to Disk" and "Open with 'x' Application"
options for the referenced .rm file?

This makes no sense if both are showing as "correct mime types."

Note that I never added under Firefox>Preferences>Downloads>File Types>Real
Audio until tonight when I was able to successfully access the "Open with 'x'
Applicaton" option while accessing URL
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie6.html for file
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/realmovie/gaso/gaso.rm.

Can anyone reproduce the following:

(Scenarios 1 and 2 would mean you would have to delete File Type WMV and File
Type RA from Firefox>Preferences>Downloads>File Type in order to reproduce)

Scenario 1:

1. Go to URL http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/indexj.html
2. Click on the first URL link on that page, URL
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie1.html
3. Click on "Download Now" on that URL, which will be URL
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/WMV/actroid-der/actroid_der.wmv
4. The only option I get is "Save to Disk"; my option to "Open with 'x'
Application" is greyed-out.
5. Do you also get a greyed-out option and are you forced to "Save to Disk"?

Can anyone reproduce this second scenario:

Scenario 2:

1. Go to URL http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/indexj.html
2. Click on the last link on that page, called "Gasosaurus," URL
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie6.html
3. Click on "Download Now" on that URL, which will be URL
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/realmovie/gaso/gaso.rm
4. I am given both the option to "Save to Disk" and the option to "Open with
'x' Application." I am also allowed to check the box that allows me to do the
same for all files of that type.
5. I choose "Open with "Real Audio" Application" and I check the option so that
all future .rm files will open with Real Audio.
6. Is anyone else also able to access both of these options, and play the file
with Real Player immediately, without having to download the file to disk? And
at the same time not have those options with the .wmv file (Scenario 1)?

Lastly, here is the originally referenced URL:

http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/indexj.htm

For reference for troubleshooting, here are all of the URLs on that originally
referenced URL, in order, with their referenced "Download Now" URLs:

1. The first URL on that page is http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie10.html
and takes you to "download now" URL of
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/WMV/actroid-der/actroid_der.wmv

2. The second URL on that page is http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie9.html
and takes you to "download now" URL of
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/WMV/actroid-mc/actroid_mc.wmv

3. The third URL on that page is http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie8.html and
takes you to "download now" URL of
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/WMV/actroid-info/actroid_info.wmv

4. The fourth URL on that page is http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie7.html
and takes you to two "download now" URLs of "Low ver." URL
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/realmovie/actroid/actroid_low.rm and "Hi ver."
URL http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/realmovie/actroid/actroid_hi.rm

5. The fifth URL on that page is http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie1.html and
takes you to "download now" URL of
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/realmovie/tarbo/tarbo.rm

6. The sixth URL on that page is http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie2.html and
takes you to "download now" URL of
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/realmovie/velo/velo.rm

7. The seventh URL on that page is http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie3.html
and takes you to "download now" URL of
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/realmovie/v_vs_p/v-cs-p.rm

8. The eighth URL on that page is http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie4.html
and takes you to "download now" URL of
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/realmovie/ovi/ovi.rm

9. The ninth URL on that page is http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie5.html and
takes you to "download now" URL of
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/realmovie/huayango/hua.rm

10. The tenth (and last) URL on that page is
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie6.html and takes you to "download now" URL
of http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/realmovie/gaso/gaso.rm

Q. -

1. Why does the summary say "kokoro-dreams.co.jp - needs to fix .htaccess mime
types" and yet per Comment #2 and Comment #5 the mime types are the correct mime
type settings on the server for Firefox to play the file?

2. Which server: a) the server for https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ or b) the
server for http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp?
To simplify:

Can anyone reproduce the following:

Please note to test Scenarios 1 and 2 means you will have to delete File Type
WMV and File Type RA from Firefox>Preferences>Downloads>File Type in order to
reproduce.

Scenario 1:

1. Go to URL http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/indexj.html
2. Click on the first URL link on that page, URL
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie1.html
3. Click on "Download Now" on that URL, which will be URL
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/WMV/actroid-der/actroid_der.wmv
4. The only option I get is "Save to Disk"; my option to "Open with 'x'
Application" is greyed-out.
5. Do you also get a greyed-out option and are you forced to "Save to Disk"?

Can anyone reproduce this second scenario:

Scenario 2:

1. Go to URL http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/indexj.html
2. Click on the last link on that page, called "Gasosaurus," URL
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/movie6.html
3. Click on "Download Now" on that URL, which will be URL
http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/realmovie/gaso/gaso.rm
4. I am given both the option to "Save to Disk" and the option to "Open with
'x' Application." I am also allowed to check the box that allows me to do the
same for all files of that type.
5. I choose "Open with "Real Audio" Application" and I check the option so that
all future .rm files will open with Real Audio.
6. Is anyone else also able to access both of these options, and play the file
with Real Player immediately, without having to download the file to disk? And
at the same time not have those options with the .wmv file (Scenario 1)?

This doesn't like like a text file and Mozilla/Firefox detects this and give you
the option to save it. Firefox would render this binary file as text in the
browser without this detection. This detection is only used for a special case
and isn't used for example this URl:
http://www.mversen.de/mozilla/text/mozilla.rar

The server sends the correct content-type for

The server configuration (kokoro-dreams.co.jp) must be fixed and that's the
reason why you can save the settings for one file and not for the other.

We can of course reproduce your scenario and it's expected because of the
misconfigured server. This is no bug in Firefox or Mozilla and that's the reason
why this bug is in Tech Evangelism (=Error on tha page/server and not in our
Product)
