When opening firefox the browser crashes occasionally (3 out of 5 times). The
browser opens, displays a blank page and nothing else can be done. The only
noticeable thing on the screen is that next to the Help drop down menu, a small
green icon appears, as if it is checking for updates..
This problem seems to occur more often when launching Firefox from a hotkey on
my keyboard i.e. a built in button for launching an Internet Browser

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Simply open Firefox (sometimes with special keyboard key)
Actual Results:  
Firefox crashes 3 out of 5 times

Expected Results:  
Opened homepage

This is an extremly annoying bug that means that I have to open and close
Firefox about 3 or 4 times every time I want to use it.

This is how the browser appears after opening via a desktop shortcut, keyboard
key or start menu shortcut.

probably due to an incompatible extension
close Firefox
start Firefox via windows start menu->Firefox->safemode
browse a while to see if you still crash

if not, start firefox and disable your extensions 1-by-1 untill the crashes stop
uninstall that extension

Did what you said. Seems that User Agent Switcher 0.6.6 was causing the loading
problem. Have removed it and all is once again well!
