User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; es-ES; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4
Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.2 (Windows/20050317)
It will be very, very cool if the, let me say, "primary key" for grouping by
sender/recipient be the mail address nor the name nor the display name nor the
nick name. This way, for example, all messages sent by user@xyz.com will be
displayed in the same group, no matter if they are with the nick name "I'm the
user" or "John User Doe".
If the sender/recipient is in my address book, the current display name must be
showed for all messages for this sender/recipient, if not in my address book,
show the name from the last message.
Reproducible: Always

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".
This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

I agree. The current behavior of Grouping in the message list could become
extremely useful.
1) As German wrote, I would like this to group by email address
(case-insensitive) rather than by display names. There just seem to be too many
variations in display names. This causes multiple groups for the same people.
Also, when grouping by Recipient, it seems that the algorithm currently creates
extra groups unexpectedly depending on the various combinations of To/CC/BCC
recipients that are possible. I think that it should only use the first valid
email address when there are multiple recipients. Here's a simple example of
the problem, with three groups instead of just one for John:
+John
+John, Jane
+John, Martha, Jane
...
2) Maybe I should make a separate Bugzilla request for this, but another thing
that would be nice is if I could eliminate my own email address from the
equation and instead combine all messages that I sent to Person X and all
messages that I received from Person X, and have them all put into a single
group (titled "Person X").
I know that I can achieve this with a full-scale search, but I would have to do
that on a person-by-person basis, and it would be so much more convenient if
Thunderbird automatically did this for ALL of the correspondents in the mailbox
when I press the letter G. :-)
3) Taking (2) a little further, if we had a "Who" column in the message list
that used the same logic, I would much prefer to use that single column rather
than my current need of showing both the Sender and Recipient columns. Of
course this would probably require some kind of indicator to show whether a
message was incoming or outgoing.
4) Perhaps related, it would be nice if the Search Bar allowed us to type in a
person's name and return all messages that we've either sent to or received from
that person. I think that this is currently impossible with the Search Bar
because "Entire Message" doesn't seem to read the From/To/CC/BCC headers and
there is no option to include all of these headers in another way (we can either
use "Sender" or "To/CC", but not both at the same time).
