Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Right click on a IMAP folder and choose compact this folder.
2. Wait and see nothing.
3.

Actual Results:  
Nothing for a while, you see deleted messages that disaper, if there are any in
the part of the window you are looking at.

Expected Results:  
So visual clue should tell you that something is going one.

I am actually using 1.0.6  this is still a problem.  I don't have any test IMAP
server I am willing to try beta software with.  But if you are willing to give
me acces to a test server, I can test the beta with it.

Guillaume, 1.0.6 is an old version.  For bug purposes, please can you try reproduce this on 1.5beta2 or a nightly.

Also, how can it still be a problem if you don't have an IMAP server to test?

Confirmed on Thunderbird version 1.5 (20051028)

The status bar say Compacting folder <foldername>... and does not switch to Done compacting folders when it is done.

Therefore this is a duplicate of bug 275199.

I disagre that the problem is just that the status bar don't change.  Even if you clear the status bar when it's finish, you don't have any clue that something is going on if you do any other operation that also involve the status bar, like compacting another folder on getting new message.  When I have several hundred message to deleted in a folder, the compacting opertation take a few minutes.  You can do a lot of opertaion in that time.  That why I think you need a real visual feedback, like a progress bar, as long as the operation continue.
