I have an ATI Radeon 8500, driver is the latest version . Previous version
of Mozilla.exe worked fine. Firefox works fine too.
By crashing I mean my screen goes black upon executing Mozilla.exe and graphic
settings go to low 8bit from high 32 bit. Also after that everytime I open
Mozilla screen flashes black. If I reset to normal resolution 32bit, it will go
down to 8 bit if I open mozilla again.
please specify the complete version of your driver (for kicks, all the
individual libraries it mentions). what version of mozilla? please specify a
full ftp/http nightly url (not latest) or a timestamp if you're using /latest*/.
based on the vague issue described here, my bet is cairo which is either svg or
canvas.
also, if you could track down the last nightly that worked, that'd be appreciated.

What version of Firefox (or are you talking about the Mozilla suite) are you
trying to run?
There's pretty much zero chance this is canvas or even svg related.

Firefox version is 1.0.4 Previous versions of Mozilla worked fine the latest
which is 1.7.8 I believe is the one causing problems. Driver for ATI radeon
8500 is version 6.14.10.6497. I really love Mozilla browser but this behavior
forces me to remove it from my machine

Sir, does this bug still happen with the latest (nightly) build of Mozilla? If
no one can confirm, this issue may be closed.

This is most likely caused by the compatibility settings on the shortcut used to
launch firefox.
Right click the shortcut, go to properties and the compatibility tab.
Check that none of the checkboxes in there are checked.
