User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 When Firefox is displayed on a monitor that is not the "lowest" in the monitor arrangement, a Bookmarks submenu will not expand correctly. A submenu of two dozen or so items may not display at all, or may display just a few items with up and down scroll arrows on the menu. In my two-by-two configuration of four 1024x768 monitors (common in the financial services market), the bottom two monitors work fine but the top two won't display submenus correctly. This renders the Bookmarks feature unusable on half of a typical stock trader's monitors. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. On Windows XP arrange two (or more) monitors (in Display Properties->Settings) such that the bottom edges are not aligned. For example, place one above the other. 2. Create a bookmarks menu and a submenu which is long enough to "want to" extend off the bottom of the monitor. (Firefox would normally resolve this by shifting the submenu up to make room or adding scroll arrows if it is too tall for the monitor). 3. Open a Firefox window on the lower monitor. 4. Click on Bookmarks, and position the mouse on the submenu item to expand it. 5. Observe normal behavior on the lower monitor. 6. Move the Firefox window to the upper monitor and repeat. Actual Results: If the submenu would extend below the bottom edge of the monitor, it may briefly flash and then disappear, it may display a short menu (not using the entire monitor height) with scroll arrows, or it may show nothing at all. Expected Results: The submenu should work on the upper monitor in the same manner as the lower monitor.
Please try a nightly build to see if you can still reproduce the problem: http://ftp.scarlet.be/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/
(In reply to comment #1) > Please try a nightly build to see if you can still reproduce the problem: > http://ftp.scarlet.be/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/ The bug occurs in the nightly build [Deer Park Alpha 1 rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4] exactly as it does in the released Firefox 1.0.4.
Update: This bug affects submenus in general, not just Bookmarks. For example: - Size a Firefor window about 300 pixels high and position it at the bottom of the lowest monitor. - Choose View->Character Encoding and see that the menus expand as follows: - the View menu expanded down - the submenu expanded down, but is shifted up so that the bottom doesn't go off the screen. - Drag the Firefox window to the bottom of an upper monitor and repeat. - Observe that the submenu is nowhere to be found.
