However, if I create a new filter by hand from the filter window, it seems to work fine. The autocreate filter does work after I create it; it just disappears when I restart the program. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Autocreate new filter 2. Close and restart thunderbird 3. Filter should be gone Actual Results: The filter dissappears. Expected Results: The filter should have persisted. I had never noticed this on the windows version... however, admitedly, I'm not sure if I autocreated a filter in the newest version of Thunderbird in Windows.

Agreed on the dupe. As noted there, there's been a hack put in for 1.5 that prevents the worst of this problem by popping up the Message Filters window after the filter creation dialog is closed; when you close that window, the new filter is stored to disk. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 277189 ***
