Once the first message has been deleted upon launching Mozilla Mail (on Mac OS X
and Windows only -- not Linux), the message-delete toolbar button or backspace
key will work to delete messages, but not before.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Mozilla Mail (1.7.8 and before).
2. Highlight a message in the top window.
3. The toolbar button for deleting messages will not be illuminated or
available, and the backspace key won't delete it, either.
4. Use Edit/Delete Message (or right-click menu) to delete the message.
5. The toolbar button and backspace buttons now work correctly.
