When I try to use the touchpad, a small scroll symbol replaces the mouse pointer, but nothing happens. The synaptics touchpad is suppose to be able to scroll both horizontally and vertically. When attempting to scroll horizontally, nothing happens, not even a scroll symbol for the pointer. Reproducible: Always

This is for a touchpad on a laptop computer.

Try downloading the most recent version of the touchpad driver WinNT5_8_0_6 synaptics. I had the same problem on v5.8 (ze4430us). This version fixed the scrolling problem in FF. It was broken sometime after synaptics 7.5.XX and the 7.12.7 H2 that HP was providing did not work (problem as discribed). I have intermittently test Synaptic drivers with FF, and this (8_0_6) is the first one that worked correctly with the virtual scrolling. Good luck.
I have also experienced this. Synaptics driver 7.12.7.0. Scrolling works on all other applications
I am also experiencing this. I have the latest synaptics driver version 7.12.7.0

Yes, I see the same problem on a HP nc8230 with a Synaptics touchpad.
Identical problem occurs w/ HP Compaq Presario V2000 running XP & Synaptics v.7.12.2. When I went to the Synaptic website, in addition to v.8.0.6 for WindowsNT, they also listed v.8.1.2 for Windows2000/XP. Has anyone tried this version, and does it fix the problem?
FF scrolling via Synaptics touch pad no longer worked properly on my Compaq Presario 2500 laptop after I upgraded to Synaptics touchpad driver version 7.12.7. A "scroll icon" would appear under the mouse pointer, but the FF window would not scroll. I actually did find a small "hack" to get FF scrolling via Synaptics to work momentarily with the 7.12.7 driver, but it is not useful for normal operation. This involved using an externally connected USB mouse (Logitech in my case), and giving it a quick "nudge" while attempting to scroll with the touchpad. FF would start scrolling as soon as the external mouse was nudged, but only as long as the finger remained in contact with the touchpad. If the finger was lifted from the touchpad and then re-applied, FF would not resume scrolling if the external mouse was not again nudged simultaneously. Having to constantly nudge an external mouse simultaneously for operating the touch pad FF scroll makes this hack impractical for everyday usage. The only way I found to get the Synaptics touchpad to work normally again /w FF on the Compaq Presario 2500 laptop was to rollback to Synaptics touchpad driver 7.5.3.8. Touchpad scrolling in IE & other apps worked fine with both versions.
I had this problem on a Compaq nc6220 laptop with the Synaptics pointing device. Downloaded latest drivers and it works in FF & IE.

Howard says that updrading to the new drivers fixed this. Can anyone else confirm this? http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm

Resolving as INVALID since this doesn't seem to be related to Firefox code, but rather just the Synaptics drivers.
