Details

(Whiteboard: CLOSEME - 05/30)

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050622 Firefox/1.0+
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050622 Firefox/1.0+

In a text area (do NOT test with HTML-area), the cursor cannot be moved with a
keyboard arrow.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to any site that has a TEXT field (NOT html-area)
2. Type something in the text are (preferably more than one line)
3. Now try to move your cursor up, down, or sideways using your keyboard; i.e.
the four arrows (NOT the pg up, pg dn, home or end buttons)

Actual Results:
Either the cursor doesn't move at all and stays where it was before (up or down
arrows), or the focus goes out of the text-area (left or right arrows) and when
you press a key again, it starts searching the page if type-ahead-find is turned on.

Expected Results:
Move the cursor according to keyboard (arrow) direction in whichever direction
the keys indicate.

Ok, hopefully I am allowed to set the '?' flag (as a sidenote, if somebody is
not allowed to set the + flag, bugzilla should automatically disallow it in the
first place; you cannot expect everyone to know this).

Also as a P.S. Just as a P.S., I have been noticing this since yesterday's
Firefox build, 20050621.

Hmm... I'm sorry. It's not Firefox, it's the NoScript extension paired with the
latest nightlies that's causing this - http://www.noscript.net/whats.

Now I don't know whether to give up the nightlies or NoScript for a while.
Anyway, I guess this bug can be closed with a WFM or whatever.

Looks like a dupe of bug 296764 as per comment 5. The noscript extension is
disabling javascript and causing bug 296764 to appear (I suspect)

However it should also be broken in Firefox 1.0.4
Perhaps comment 6 is correct, but I it happens whether or not the specific site
setting in NoScript is to allow or disallow javascript.
Hmm, so does that make this bug invalid, worksforme, or a dupe?
It happens for me *sometimes* in Deer Park Alpha 2 too. It doesn't happen for
Deer Park Alpha 1.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b3) Gecko/20050712
Firefox/1.0+

When it happens, the copy and paste function is gone too.

Does it still occur since bug 296764 was fixed.

Otherwise maybe a dupe of bug 264037

For me to: *Sometimes* the cursor-keys and the copy/paste-functionality is not
working anymore in textareas. Have to restart Firefox (1.0.6).
I have the same problem. I have had it since 1.0.6 and I still have it now at 1.5.0.1. I having it even now as I write this. To fix it usually I don't have to restart firefox, though, I only have to focus on another windows for a few seconds. I tried everything, changing profile, deleting extensions, uninstalling and deleting everything, nothing worked.
This happens "every now and then". It may happen in the adressline as well as in textboxes within the webpage. A restart of firefox did help always up to now.
This bug is really annoying as it happens unpredictably spontaneously.
I have this identical problem both at home and at work. I am running Windows XP SP2 at both places. As I am writing this bug report, I cannot use the cursor keys but have to use the mouse pointer instead. When Bugzilla is in this strange state. It seems to be a global state and appears on all open Firefox browsers until something happens, for example cutting/pasting a text into a text field.

I am using a clean installation of Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7. Only addon is GBookmarks (both at home and at work). Another tip is that the problem may have occurred after been using docs.google.com.

Wow, now as I pasted the User Agent text above, the bug disappeared for now.
David: When you say "clean installation", do you also mean clean profile? THere could be remnants of your old profile around causing this issue.

Are people seeing this using Firefox 2.0.0.3 with a clean profile?

If you're still seeing this using Firefox 2.0.0.4 with a clean profile, please file a new bug with detailed information about your setup as well as any information you can give to reproduce. Additionally, please be sure to test with the latest trunk nightly and see if this was fixed there.
