User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; ja-JP; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050619 Firefox/1.0.4 Build Identifier: there're garbage characters on developer-test.mozilla.org/ja/docs/ defferent from bug 295793, this problem isn't only contents but important strings are garbaged. so I assume LanguageJa.php or something is broken. at the end of May this wasn't happened. Reproducible: Always
I'm not sure, but it sounds like the encoding may have got messed up when we upgraded mediawiki (?)

Do you have any examples of which strings are broken?
not only editted messages (via wiki) but also system strings (of wiki) are broken.
The default values for the system messages look quite japanese to me. The local overrides are all screwed up. At first glance this looks like someone has been tweaking them with the charset screwed up in their browser at the time.
i don't know well about the mediawiki and system internal, but "default text" seems to be a default strings for Japanese version (translated version). so i think it has been translated already? or, we view strings direct from system definition file as "default text" and output through mediawiki system or so as "current text" ??? If it's true, b/c of "default text" is correct as Japanese, but "current text" is not correct as japanese (garbage charactors), so, wiki system doesn't work correctly?

If "current text" is different from "default text" then someone has manually edited them. MediaWiki initializes that namespace with all the messages blank and uses the default one if there's no current one defined. (it shows the default in the current column on the page if there is no current one).

(it shows the > default in the current column on the page if there is no current one). so, we all can be happy with deleting all "current text"s from system data? can you do it?, b/c i dont know how to do or not have rights. # or if i can, i will translate all remaining texts.
Changing QA contact to the default QA so interested parties can watch bugs filed before the default QA was changed. Only bugs in an unfixed state have been changed; fixed bugs are unlikely to be reopened, and more bugspam is always a bad thing. Sorry for the bugspam - filter it into your Junk folder by searching for 'WhyDoesMediaWikiHaveToBeEvilAndNotAcceptArbitraryCharactersInTitlesAndLinks'.

I am not really sure where those options reside. If someone had a chance to figure it out, that would be super helpful. Anyone familiar with mediawiki source?

about attachment: I know no binary editor that can display utf8, so ignore right side. save garbled page and fix it, take a diff between them. in each block(delimited by wide line), upper side of the slight line is current devmo-test, lower side of the slight line is fixed. can anyone test using same db and new installation without developer-test'ify to find problem is in the db or in the developer-test'ify process?
Looks like it is not in the developer'testify process: http://developer-test.mozilla.org/ja-test/docs/ That _is_ the same db as /ja/docs/, so don't break it! Any other ideas?
OK, I gave up and set up a new install. _RSZ_ backed up the previous docs and is going to put them back. As of right now nothing is garbled... you break it you buy it! http://developer-test.mozilla.org/ja/docs/ This is also a great opprotunity for everyone in /ja/ that did not have a fancy new SSO account to re-sign up for an account. Sorry if that is a problem...
