User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US) Thunderbird version 1.0+ (20050614) until recent nightly builds, i used to be able to click the "Show Images" button and then hit the spacebar to scroll into the message. recently, after clicking that button, if i hit the spacebar, the message scrolls down one page, but then a "Loading message" message appears briefly in the status bar, and then the page snaps back to the top of the message. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. set up preferences to block images from unknown recipients 2. receive a mail message with images from an unknown recipient 3. click "Show Images" 4. hit the spacebar or alternately 4. page down into the message with the scrollbar without clicking in the msg 5. hit the spacebar Actual Results: when the spacebar is hit: 1] the message pages down one as it should 2] a "Loading Message" message appears in the status bar briefly 3] the message snaps back to the top Expected Results: [2] & [3] of the "Actual Results" should not occur the scrollbar still allows navigation in the message, though if i page down with the scrollbar and then hit the spacebar, the same odd behavior occurs: it pages down one more page, then snaps back to the top of the message. if i hit the "Show Images" button, and then click somewhere within the message, the problematic behavior does not occur.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. I can reproduce this problem with "Not a Scam" button too. I think the "Show Images" and "Not a Scam" buttons are having focus after hidden. But I cannot understand why this is not reproduecd with "This is Not Junk". We should set focus to another content at the button is hidden. But I don't know what content is best content. If we'll forward to next focusable content, the mail subject is selected, so, this is not good...

(In reply to comment #5) > We should set focus to another content at the button is hidden. But I don't > know what content is best content. If we'll forward to next focusable content, > the mail subject is selected, so, this is not good... i doubt the focus state at the time the "Show Images" or "Not a Scam" button could be "saved" long enough to then place focus in that location. if it can, then great, do that. the next best thing as far as i'm concerned would be to simply place the focus on the "prior"/"previous" (sorry, not certain what the terminology is, but i'm trying to refer to the focus location that would occur if you hit shift-tab). this would then place the focus in the pane containing the message subject & sender etc. that's most likely where focus was previously (though not guaranteed), and will allow the spacebar to once again work appropriately.

Reporters, does this still occur in the latest 2.0.0.x or trunk nightlies?

don't know what the "latest" trunk build is; it still reproduces for me using version 2.0.0.12 (20080213) on windows. let me know if there is a known specific "nightly" that has the fix for this installed and i will gladly test it. if no such fix is installed, refer to comment #6 for my suggestion on best behavior with what to do with current focus.

the reported behavior no longer occurs on the trunk build [version 3.0a1pre (2008043003)] ... ... but i guess i'd like to know if the person who fixed this bug is still reading this thread. it would seem this was fixed by shifting the focus to the "next" item available on the list of items to focus on. i would like to see if the "focus" could be shifted to the "previous" item in the focus list (which would likely be the subject/sender pane (or whatever it's called) or the message itself if the message is separate from the 2- or 3-pane window, rather than to the subject line, which is relatively useless. one has to tab away from it in one direction or another for any useful behavior.

just double-checking ... this works in 3.0b2pre? i'm still on "version 2.0.0.18 (20081105)" ... and it still fails as described in the reproducible steps.

I'm not disputing that if fails in 2.x. iirc it failed for me there as well. but as a long time reporter you should know that status and resolution reflects the bug report's condition when tested with a trunk build.

Duplicate of bug 308875, perhaps?

regarding comment #17, i don't thinks this is a "duplicate" of bug 308875 because: a] this bug came first, perhaps making that bug a dup of this one (ok, sorry, nitpicking) b] more importantly, that bug seems to relate to remote images, whereas this bug occurs for me even in the case where there are no remote images, but the "Not a scam" button was there to begin with. this latter difference would thus probably mean that 308875 is not a dupe of this bug.
