I have been using Netscape Mail 7.2 for some time without incident. Last week I
started to get these messages on both my and my wife's accounts. I checked with
Comcast and they assurred me it was not a problem on their side. Since I had
been thinking about switching to TB, I decided to give it a try. The download
and installation went flawlessly, but I was not presented with the option of
importing my wife's profile. After the installation, the Netscape icon on the
task bar with allows selection of the browser, mail, composer, etc. disappeared.

I "played around" with TB for a little while and found the same problem. I
could receive all e-mail, but could not send most messages. Messages with
attachments and any in-line forwarded messages could not be sent, but very small
messages of a single sentence did get out.

I managed to somehow get my Netscape icon back on the task bar (I think this was
temporarily pulled by SpyBot resident).

I got side tracked somewhat with the mail icon on Windows Control Panel. There
was a recent update to MS Outlook (which I use rarely) and there were old
entries of ISPs no longer used. I put in entries for Netscape profiles with the
current ISP (Comcast) and went back to see if I could send mail. A test e-mail
with a small attachment got through, but larger ones did not.

I next started to disable those programs which I thought could be problematic,
one at a time, starting with Norton Anti-virus, then SpyBot and finally BlackIce
Defender. When I turned off the BlackIce Defender engine, I had no problem
sending any type of e-mail with attachments as large is 1 meg jpgs (I did't try
for anything higher).

I removed BlackIce Defender from my computer and re-installed the original
version. Then I installed the last update Version 2.9 CAN and entered the same
settings - Paranoid - and turned on auto-block. I had no problem with my e-mail
and attachments.

So now I no the culprit was BlackIce Defender which apparently turned off the
ports depending on the size of the file being sent. I also noted that before I
removed the old installation, the BlackIce icon on the task bar would not
accurately display the current BI engine status.

I am running a Dell OptiPlex GX260 desktop about 2 years old with Windows 2000
Professional 5.0.2195 Service Pack 4 Build 2195. The two conflicting programs
have been running okay without modification for over a year. The only changes
made in the last couple of weeks is been a MS update through the standard
Windows feature on my task bar (I think is was for MS Outlook.) I intstalled an
IMToo avi to mpeg converter program that went okay.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Stopped the BlackIce engine
2. Send e-mail with large attachment. E-mail sent without problems.
3. Start the BlackIce engine. Send E-mail with large attachment. Sending
e-mail with large attachment fails.

Actual Results:
As described above

This is not a bug, but the help desks and the Knowledbases of Netscape, Mozilla

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
