On some web sites, for example http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups, or http://www.astrosurf.com/index.php3 (frame showing the site menu) the same occurs. See examples in attachment Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.start Mozilla from shortcut 2. 3. Actual Results: see above example can be seen on the forum at the following link, author sccc: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=1566228&sid=75b75256ce6018c6144361e570bc6ba1#1566228 Expected Results: normal appearance see example in the link as above Operating system: Window 98 SE Pentium III, 1 Ghz 512 Mo ram Mozilla 1.7.8 Default theme: classic When the problem occurs, toggling from one theme to another (example; classic>modern or reverse) cures the problem. However, after exiting Mozilla and starting it again, the problem comes back. I tried to uninstall and re install the system (after removing the GRE file), with no positive result.

This is not a crash; that would be the application quitting unexpectedly. Removing crash from the summary.
Summary: Layout crash - letters overflow frame- missing background colors → Layout bug - letters overflow frame- missing background colors

In this thread: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=285731 I found that the display problem could be linked to Stardownloader integration (which I did when re installing Mozilla). Can anybody comment about this?

So what are the actual steps to reproduce? I note you conveniently left those out.... Does this bug happen in a Mozilla install from Mozilla.org with no extensions?

(In reply to comment #8) > So what are the actual steps to reproduce? I note you conveniently left those > out.... > > Does this bug happen in a Mozilla install from Mozilla.org with no extensions? > Not sure to understand what do you mean with steps to reproduce but here is what I did at that time: Download Mozilla 1.7.8 from the website Execute the install program (.exe) So far, there was no problems using Mozilla. Then; At the first attempt to use stardownloader by exectuting it separately, the program asks whether I would like to integrate it into Mozilla (which means any attempt to download a file will be executed by stardownloader and not from Mozilla's download manager). Once that done, the display problem occurs (but not necessarily at the first session). The last time I downloaded Mozilla 1.7.8. (after desinstalling the previous one) and used stardownloader, I simply refused the integration of stardownloader and everything works normally. In Mozilla 1.7 (the former version I had), there was not proposal of integration of Stardowloader when executing it for the first time. After a first execution, any attempt to download a file from Mozilla was automatically done trough stardownloader.

That sounds like a bug in whatever this Stardownloader thing is.... Please report the bug to them -- they're installing an extension that is not behaving well.
