User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050610 Firefox/1.0.4 (Debian package 1.0.4-3)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050610 Firefox/1.0.4 (Debian package 1.0.4-3)

The following is a very strange bug I've encountered the last copule of releases.
Sometimes when I add message filters (I got a lot of them; > 1000 for sure).
And I restart Thunderbird.
All conditions are deleted from the filter.
I've checked the msgFilterRules.dat, and the conditions line is missing.

btw: I've chosen "Critical" as severity because this bug may lead to loss of data.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
Unfortunately I cannot reproduce the bug always. As I've told above it happens
when I've created a new filter and AFTER I've restarted TB.

I'm sorry that I don't have more information. :-|
Actual Results:
The main problem is: As the filter has no longer any conditions - every email
fulfilss the filter "conditions" and the rules are applied.

Expected Results:
Don't delete randomly filters :-D
I experiment something rather similar.

When I add a new filter by right-clicking on, say, the sender email, and select
"create a filter", the filter appears in the "filter window" and it works. But
when relaunching Thunderbird, this filter may have disapeared (this is not
systematic).

I didn't find what could be the cause of this behaviour, and I haven't find
(yet) a way to reproduct it.

I experiment this on two different computers:
- destok box: mandriva 2005LE + thunderbird 1.0.2 (RPMs from Mandriva)
- laptop: same configuration

I can see this behaviour on POP accounts and IMAP accounts.

Observing the content of msgFilterRules.dat, I found that a "just created
filter" that immediatly appears in msgFilterRules.dat will have no problem. On
the other hand, a "just created filter" that doesn't, won't be here at next startup.

I found a workaround that (for the moment) has always worked for me. When a new
filter doesn't immediatly appear in msgFilterRules.dat, I go the filter window,
and move this filter up or down, and then it is saved in msgFilterRules.dat.
This is not really comfortable but it works.

For people using a lot of filters, this bug severity can be considered (almost)
as Major.

Or maybe similar to
267991

I have seen msgFilterRules.dat disappearing completely.
I mean the file itself is gone without a trace
when /tmp has very low amount of free disk.

yes, i'd say it's a dup of bug 274539.

Please reopen if you still see the problem described in commment 0
