User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050610 Firefox/1.0.4 (Debian package 1.0.4-3)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050610 Firefox/1.0.4 (Debian package 1.0.4-3)

A number of sites, especially sites the share the same users on the same system
or network, have a shared folder that appears as a subdomain to each, usually
containing images used on all/most of the sites.

When using "Load images...from originating site only," that subdomain gets
blocked when, normally, it would be ok with the user, as something like
ads.foo.bar would easily be managed with the "block images from" alt-menu option.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select, "Load images," and, "from originating site only."
2. Goto any site that uses a shared folder subdomain for images (aselabs.com
mentioned above)
3. Profit!!! Or, uh, I mean, notice the lack of alt text? I do. I'm checking
on that next.

Actual Results:
All the images not from a sub-directory stay good and gone

Expected Results:
It 'should' (ehhh...) have had an option to see images from subdomains.
So basically you suggest to revert the current behaviour (originating server
should allow subdomains)? Also see Bug 287571, this checkbox might get removed
in the Future (since this pref is confusing to some users).
I think when I wrote to much at Bug 287571 , I covered my thoughts better (now
with the historical/future perspective). Ultimately, I think there will be no
way to cover every possibility and need. However, in the now, I think I would
rather allow subdomains by default and block them one at a time than not see
anything at all. Of course, somewhere, there's a site that has alternating
subdomains just to shove ads...and then a "from originating site only and we
mean that down to the subdomain, for reals bitches" option would be useful;
unfortunately, that would be wordy and would risk clashing with HIG.
