This bug is meant to be discussion about changing the default behaviour of
installing old / non compatible with new EM (install.js only) extensions.
New EM (install.rdf) was introduced in Firefox 0.9 and it's probably time to
'protect' the users and force authors to make their extensions new EM compatible.
Please add / fill bugs that should be fixed before changing this behaviour.

When bug 299041 would be fixed I doubt that the requested pref would be defaulted to true but I might reopen the bug later if needed...
sorry, not a dupe -- my mistake.

Confirming but I imagine that the decision will just be taken in bug 299041

Ever confirmed: true
Since there is not going to be any pref this is invalid.
