Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/3.3; Linux) KHTML/3.3.2 (like Gecko)
Build Identifier:

When looking for a plugin I was advised by the plugins website to upgrade
Firefox to version 1.0.4. I downloaded and ran this program, only to find that
it had overwritten all my bookmarks and settings with the default values,
losing me valuable data. I find this kind of error in an install package
moronic, and as a QA Manager and package builder, I know what I'm speaking
about.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install the upgrade
2. Open the browser
3. Curse the install builder as a braindead moron

Actual Results:
Bookmarks data is irretrievably lost

Expected Results:
Upgrades should never overwrite any variables - just the programs. If it is
necessary to write data to change a data format, (for example) existing data
must be captured and converted.
Can you check to see if a new profile was acidentially created:

There maybe an old profile with all your data still in it.

Nope - only one profile under my ID, none under all users or default user.

Update should not be overwritting any of the profile settings.

1.0.4 has only very minor changes over 1.0.3 so no profile data conversion is
necessary, your profile data should have been retained as it was.

Bug 284099 mentions the bookmarks loss, however the only reports of all the
settings being lost seem to relate to a new profile being created.

Any additional information you could provide would be very useful.
The first run would have over-written the bookmarks and not the installer.

Component: Installer → Bookmarks
