this opens a popup window with a flash demo in it. im not able to view the flash
demo.  ( i went to the flash website and it verified that i have a Proper plugin
installed).  i can view the same on IE, but before display it warns me "Both
secure and non-secure items are displayed on this page"

This is an error in the page and no Gecko bug.

IE gets \images\NID.swf while Gecko gets the swf without path and that's a 404
