User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4

I use two mozilla accounts with same XP account. Occasionally I switch the
profile by closing Thunderbird and restarting it with a different profile. Very
very often the mail window does not appear after selecting the profile. I need
to go to Task manager and kill a Thunderbird process, to get it working.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create two accounts
2.Open Thunderbird with the first account
3.Close it
4.Open Thunderbird with the second account
This problem does happen with 2-5 account switches

Actual Results:
The mail window does not appear

Expected Results:
The mail window opens normally

agree with comment #1

also, I think one may (incorrectly?) confirm it if using the extension
CopyAttachmentToClipboard
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/4881
(see the reviews there that state this too)
Just tried that and precisely, that extension seams to block opening messages in new windows, so if you say open in new window it does nothing, but when close tb from right top x button there is still a process in task manager. I can assume that may go for other extensions/processes/cases here.
1.workaround, do you need that extension?
2.workaround may be, don't close from the right top x button, but file/exit
or the buttons provided with some extensions in amo (not only for this extension)
ovidiu, do you see this hang in newest trunk? If not, it's likely fixed by Bug 382446 / bug 420744 (which still might see further change)
I just saw this behavior related to the extension.

!Also, there is some indication of such "still running process" in the comments and scope of the close and restart buttons extensions, aiming to do a better job (similar to file/exit?) than up right x win button.!

see first review, says about such until 3.0a2pre .. (second one relates it to several windows open, just as I do ..)

I would kindly ask the reporter to state if that extension is there or if same behavior is there in standard install or safe mode.

I don't think I tried trunk (tb3) as the extension is not there for 3. I could do that, though I don't see the immediate connection to bugs above. I'll try to see more..
