In a few cases, the progress panel appears and the download gets underway but then halts midway into the file. I have no problems with downloading on my office machine but it will not work here at home; I reinstalled firefox and this act did not solve anything. Thanks for your help. Don Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Attempt any file download like a program update. 2. 3. Actual Results: no successful download. Expected Results: downloaded.

Don, please download and install a recent nightly build (http://www.mozilla.org/developer) and report beck your experiences with this newer version.
I repeatedly clicked on check for downloads for firefox and was informed that Firefox 1.0.6 was essential. I clicked on download now. The screen displayed "now downloading and installing updates", but even though I left the download open overnight, nothing happened. As long as I kept the download attempt open,I could not use firefox at all. note: as someone who is not a computer expert, I find your bug report procedure very cumbersome and time-consuming.It discourages people from reporting problems.

I downloaded the latest nightly build, and created and am using a new account. I still get the same bug as this guy. Sometimes when I'm downloading something from a website. I'll do a Save As, and save to desktop. The download manager opens, and the file will do one of two things. (1) Have the file name listed and underneath just say "Starting..." and not do anything (ever). (2) Actually start downloading and the progress bar gets to a certain point (not always the same) and hangs. In either case the file never finishes downloading. While it is downloading you can see the file in the specified folder, but it is incomplete.

I just had this happen as well. WinXP Pro SP2, FireFox 1.5.0.7. In my case, I had just installed latest update of QuickTime (completed), followed shortly after with BSOD crash. Upon rebooting, download manager was no longer called up during downloads. My download history is now cleared, and "All files downloaded to:" appears blank. No downloads will begin now, and re-installing FireFox has no affect. I will be using IE for now in case you wish to inqure for additional info, but will soon wipe all references to FireFox before I reinstall it.
I have a similar problem. Nothing happens when I try to download in FF. i hit download or save target as or even try to use a video grabber, nothing happens. Download manager doesn't open, and if I Ctrl+J the download manager opens but is empty. I have a cert. 3 in IT, so I should know what I'm doing. I've completely uninstalled FF2.0 including all files and registry entries. Re-booted, then re-installed and had the same problem. I'm interested in the comment above regarding Quicktime possibly causing the problem. I will remove Quicktime when I get home tonight and report tomorrow.

Same problem here, with Firefox 2.0.0.3. With many files, the download manager simply indicates 'Starting...' and nothing is downloaded. However, some files are completely downloaded, and some are downloaded up to some point and then stop. I've tried clearing the cache and then starting the download again (by clicking again on the link), and sometimes the download does start and stops somewhere at the middle of the file. I've noticed another behavior that may be related to this bug: When watching some videos from youtube, the videos will stop at a certain point. If I try reloading the page, no video is shown. If I then clear the cache and reload the page, the video will again be shown up to a certain point (not always the same) and then stop. This bug only started appearing, in my system, after upgrading to version 2.0 of Firefox, but I'm not sure whether it started right after the upgrade or only some time after it.
I just started having this problem as well. Using Firefox 2.0.0.4. Use a site's download page or even doing a right-click Save As locks Firefox, requiring Win Task Manager to shut it down.

(In reply to comment #9) > Please try to delete downloads.rdf file from your profile folder, then retry > > If this solves the problem please mark this report as Worksforme > This didn't work for me. What sometimes works (but not always!) is stopping the hung download in the download manager, clearing the cache, and then clicking "Retry" in the download manager.
