FileEditViewGoMessageToolsHelp are bunched together, the drop down menu for each
in the black, though the links work, this is only occuring on my desktop,
Thunderbird works fine on my lap-top.  There are no format lines to seperate the
fields, i.e. widen the inbox, unsent messages column..This problem dosen't clear
if Thunderbird is re-loaded

Which version of Thunderbird?

Try creating a new profile for TB and running with that.
