Details

When the auth box pops up, typing doesn't go to the username field even though
the blinking cursor indicates that that field has the focus.

Tabbing to the password field gives no indication that the field is active, and
nothing is displayed in response to typing making it very difficult to tell what
is going on.

The "save this info" (or whatever it says) checkbox is inactive as well.
Clicking on it does nothing one way or the other.

mean by an "auth box"? 

In the future, I'd suggest considering using the Bugzilla Helper.

I suppose bug 27784 (can't type into password field in basic authentication 
boxes) is involved.
But typing in the userfield name should be working then.
Could you tell, if it's *only* the password field, or all fields of the 
authentication dialog that's broken.
BTW, which build do you use?
