With Mozilla 1.8b2 nightly 20050702:

In the display of message subject, sender etc. if the "Attachments"
column is disabled, then for messages with attachments which are
tagged for deletion, there is no red cross over the "attachment"
symbol. This worked fine on earlier versions, such as 20050317.
Messages with no attachments which are marked for deletion have
the correct display of an "envelope" symbol with a red cross.

This is not likely to be much of a problem for the default
behaviour of having "tagged for deletion" messages displayed with
strikethrough. However if this is disabled
(https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=300462) then the
lack of a red cross is a bigger problem.

This problem does not occur in Thunderbird 1.0+ nightly 20050711. Since I
understand that the Mozilla suite is no longer being worked on, perhaps this bug
is of no importance.
