Once I have decided to delete something, I would like it to now be shown as read
even if I didn't read it. I realize this may be a personal preference, but would
like the option to someplace (maybe in Trash properties) say "Automatically mark
items in trash as read."

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Move an item to trash use junk mail controls.
2.
3.

Actual Results:  
Trash shows 1 unread item. Indicators show that I still have mail to read.

Expected Results:  
Me handling a piece of mail should mark that piece of mail read even if I
haven't actually opened it. While this pertains especially to trash, I would
really like any mail sorting option to show the item as read. I would be fine
with this being a preference.

I don't think it's a duplicate, I also suffer from this.
Stuff in trash should not appear as unread, since no one is going to want to
read it...

this is valid for spam as well as other messages.
