User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050711 Firefox/1.0.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050711 Firefox/1.0.5 Firefox 1.0.5, OS X 10.4.1 When quitting, the window closes but Firefox remains "on." It's the same whether I use the keystroke or menu "Quit" Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Firefox 2. Quit Firefox 3. Actual Results: Window closed, application remained "on." Expected Results: It should quit. Force Quit works, seems to cause no problem in system, other applications or finder.
Does that always happen? What if you lauch firefox then quit same problem?
Do you have any extensions installed?
Third Party Items installed: Application Enhancer 1.5.1 Default Folder X 2.0.2b4 (3994) Iomega Active Delivery Macaroni 2.0.6 Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect 10.0.1 Norton QuickMenu 1.0 Silk 2.1 Stuffit AVR 9.0.2 Xounds 2.3.1 ------------------------------ If opened and immediately Quit, it quits. It also quit just now after I went to mozilla.org ------------------------------ I'm going to send this now, but I just checked and saw that 1.0.6 is out and I will install and try it with that version.
OS is now 10.4.2 I just tried 1.0.6. Opened Comcast Mail and Mozilla change password and it would not quit. Force quit. Then I opened it again, went to Comcast Mail Login but didn't hit Enter. It quit. Reopened. Went to NYTimes.com. It quit. Reopened. Went to Yahoo Mail. Didn't sign out. It quit. Reopened. Logged in to Comcast Mail. It quit this time. Reopened. Logged into Comcast Mail. Read one, deleted it, moved it back to Inbox. Firefox stayed open, but no other menu bar items would open. When I clicked on the "Firefox" menu, nothing happened, I left to come back to Safari, I got a "Firefox has quit unexpectedly." Except, it hasn't. It's still there in the Command-Tab Application Switcher, but the Dock won't pop-up now, and the last application moused over has its name showing above where it is located on the Dock. Here's what I wrote in the Apple report on this last hang: Testing (for Bugzilla report) whether Firefox 1.0.6 would quit after visiting various sites. It seems to be an intermittent problem now. This time I quit, but Firefox stayed open until I went back and clicked on 2 or 3 menu bar items. When I went back to Safari, the "unexpectedly quit" alert came up.
This seems to happen fairly often to me as of Firefox 1.0.6 when quitting with multiple tabs open. I'm running OS X 10.4.2. The windows will close but the menu bar stays, and Force Quit must be used to kill it. 1.0.7 hasn't fixed it. Extensions: Adblock v5 d2 nightly 39 Copy Plain Text 0.3.1 BugMeNot 0.7 Open Java Console 0.8
I also get this bug. I run Mac OS X 10.3.9 with 768 mb ram, and Firefox 1.5. I can never quit Firefox normally, I have to force quit it every single time!
Same exact problem. When I go to firefox -> quit firefox, only one window closes. If I do it again another window closes. So with one window open I have to quit firefox twice to have it actually quit. If I only quit once I still have full functionality with firefox. I can go the the firefox menu and create a new window etc. Very annoying, I run firefox 1.5.0.1 on mac os x. (10.3.9).
I also have this bug. I run Firefox 2.0.03 on a mac os x version 10.4.9. Firefox only shuts down completely if I force quit, otherwise the menu bar stays up.
I'm running 10.4.9 and FF 2.0.0.3 now and it quits normally now. I had avoided it for several months, forgot about this problem, then noticed in VersionTracker that a new version was out. So I upgraded and, as I said, forgot that this had been a problem until I got this notice. In terms of things that have changed (other than version of OS) since I first posted this bug, for some reason my FireWire drives will not mount ("bus resets in last 10 seconds"), but I can't imagine that this was or is in any way related to this bug.
I have a similar problem with Windows XP and FF 2.0.0.4. After running Firefox for couple of hours the web pages stop to load. If you try to close Firefox it shuts the window but Firefox will remain in running processes list and you can't shut it down from there. New instances of Firefox can't be started. Only solution is to boot the computer. Only addon I use is RefControl 0.8.9
works for me. tested under Firefox 2.0.7/OSX 10.4.10 Minefield nightly/OSX 10.4.10
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9pre) Gecko/2008032704 Minefield/3.0pre I wish I knew how to quit you, Firefox. (Works for me, too)

It's 2016 in few hours and annoying Firefox won't quit. I tried trashing the whole app, it sticks in there, no matter what. Aaaaargh!
