User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050711 Firefox/1.0.5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050711 Firefox/1.0.5

Only happens at www.msnbc.com and only on some links there, and only since they
recently "improved" their site. Also happened in Firefox 1.0.4.

Attempt to print some pages, and it just sits there while CPU use goes to 100%
and just sits there. Have to switch to another program window and then back to
Firefox and the only cure is to close Firefox and restart.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to indicated URL
2. Attempt to print page
3.

Actual Results:
Printing window opens and then it just sits there. Ctrl-Alt-Del and check of
performance shows CPU at 100%

Expected Results:
Printed page.

Windows XP-SP2, fully patched as of Tuesday, July 12, 2005.
AMD Athelon XP 3200+ 500mb RAM
Doesn't matter if other tabs open or not. Happens either way.
Java and Javascript disabled, but have heard happens with them enabled.
Others with different setups confirm same occurrence.
Extensions:
QuickTabPrefToggle 0.0.4
Adblock 5.2.39
Bandwidth Tester 0.5.5
Same thing occurs for http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8587599/
WFM with current trunk build. Please test with a nightly trunk build:
http://ftp.scarlet.be/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050715
Firefox/1.0+

no crash for me either. but no signficant print bugs have been fixed in the past
week. so my guess is a newer version will not help.

try printing after starting FF in safe mode - does it work?

Note - printing of these pages stops after page 2, which is perhaps related to
some other bug (there's no lack of printing bugs).

fixing URL I trashed http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8557465/page/2/
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8557465/page/2/ appears to be working now (See
Comment #4). However still having same problem with
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8587599/ even in Safe Mode (see Comment #3)
Concerning Comment #2 to try with
http://ftp.scarlet.be/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/firefox-1.0+.en-US.win32.installer.exe
-- that reports itself as Deer Park Alpha 2 and I prefer not to play with alphas
and betas and RC's until a program has its official regular release.
Well, currently only bugs (unless it is a security bug) that are reproducable in
trunk builds are being looked at.
This is not something that is going to get fixed in the Firefox1.0.x builds.
crashes 1.0.4 win98; worksforme linux 1.0.4, linux trunk 20050715, win98 dpa2.

While that may be prudent in some respects - it doesn't advance the resolution
of this bug. Your alternative is to install a nightly, test it, report it, and
then reinstall (go back to) your production 1.0.x version. Less than 15 minutes
of time.

crashes 1.0.4 win98; worksforme linux 1.0.4, linux trunk 20050715, win98 dpa2.

Thanks for the report, but can you recreate with a TRUNK build from
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/ ??
(reporting tests on 1.0.x releases doesn't help)

Also occurring at: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8629718/

please cite which trunk build version?

If someone verifies this occurs on the trunk then it will be confirmed.
Problem is back with Fx 1.5 at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10993252/ -- details and further information at: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=372036&sid=9982937b8ef1038b197677ac300fb85e
Confirmed in 1501rc1 and Trunk 2006012405 (and safe-mode)

hiyatoho,

were you in SAFE MODE?
what build string?
do you have java and javascript enabled or disabled?
does it als happen in print preview?
is it 100% reproducable? If so, please attach screen shot of the top of the page

Same page fails for at least two people so there may be a common thread. But with ad banners it's possible a graphic that infrequently cycles into the page is causing the problem. And there are many bugs to choose from - some of them https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&short_desc=print+&product=Core&product=Firefox&resolution=---&op_sys=All&op_sys=Windows+95&op_sys=Windows+98&op_sys=Windows+ME&op_sys=Windows+2000&op_sys=Windows+NT&op_sys=Windows+XP&op_sys=Windows+Server+2003&chfieldto=Now&field0-0-0=short_desc&type0-0-0=anywordssubstr&value0-0-0=hang+cpu+loop&field0-1-0=short_desc&type0-1-0=notsubstring&value0-1-0=change - take a look and see if some of the ones marked NEW also fail for you.

However, WFM Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 - both with java+javascript on and off.

An interesting note: with java+javascript I get additional print progress windows after then initial page rendering - with titles like "click this for more ...", "saturn ...", "msn ...".
1. Problem remains in Safe Mode.
2. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
3. Java and Javascript both disabled.
4. Haven't tried print preview. Will do and report back.
5. Happened to me consistently on several tries. Comment #13 indicates happens to others.
6. Not sure how I'd attach a screen shot but will try to email you one.
Yes, same problem at http://www.theresia.name/crashme.html
When I try to do a screen shot, it won't paste in Paint. System way slowed by 100% CPU until I close out Firefox with methods previously mentioned.
Sorry, overlooked instruction to test NEW. Some worked, one didn't:
www.gamefaqs.com printed fine
http://manolito.image.ece.ntua.gr/~sivann/mozilla/taxisnet/ printed fine
http://indianheartjournal.com/JulAug03/Prudent%20Diet%20and%20Preventive/prudent_diet_and_preventive_nutr.htm locked up and failed.
Didn't test any others.
Just when I thought it was safe. Same problem at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11204005/ with Fx 1.5.0.1
Reporter, do you still see this problem in a latest release like Firefox 2.0.0.4
?
Whiteboard: CLOSEME - 07/02
I haven't had this problem in a while. I think since going to Fx 2.0.0.0. Thank you all!
Ok, marking worksforme, then.
