The Austrian google search plugin "Google Austria (google.at)" by Wolfgang
Schroedl does not pass on certain German characters, called umlauts, to the
search site www.google.at. Austria is a German-speaking country, and has nine
million inhabitants, many of who use www.google.at.

It would be wise for spreading firefox, that the Austrian search plugin should
work better. Many searchs cannot be done using this search plugin, and many
Austrian end-users could be dissapointed about the Google.at firefox search plugin.

In comparision, the Federal-Republic-of-Germany German search plugin "Google DE
(google.de) by MadeMyPaint" works perfectly with umlauts.

www.google.at itself works with umlauts perfectly as well, when entered directly
into the site, and not using the firefox search plugin.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install the search plugin "Google Austria (google.at)" by Wolfgang Schroedl
2. Enter a German Word containing an umlaut, e. g. "Österreich"
   [germ. "Austria"] or "Lärche" [germ. "larch"].
Actual Results:  
The German search term was not be passed on correctly to the German-languaged
search site www.google.at, but was mutilated to "?sterreich" or "L?rche", and no
reasonable search result resulted.


Expected Results:  
The firefox search plugin "Google.at" by W. Schroedl should be debugged, to work
as well as the other German Google search plugins.

The bug has to lie in the treatment of umlauts.

See bug 265579 comment 9 for the solution to this issue. You need to specify the
correct encoding in the search plugin source file. This is usually up to the
localization team for your localization.
