For thunderbird 1.0.2-6 (20050513) running under Fedora 4, when try to forward a
message with attachments, either with the message body inline or as an
attachment, the attachments of the original message are not attached to the
forwarded message. This formerly worked, so it seems to be a loss of what
previously worked.

Also, when one opens a message with ctrl-e as a way to resend it, the
attachments of the original message are not attached to the new copy.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select message with attachments
2. Click Forward button
3.

Actual Results:
New message appeared in the compose window, but it did not have the attachments
of the original.

Expected Results:
Message in compose window has all attachments of the original.
I tried to put name from address and it would not push over to the "send to" column.
Jon Roland, are you still experiencing this bug? I cannot reproduce with
TB 1.0.6, Win2K, nor with 1.5b1-0904.

If you are still seeing this: are you running with any extensions installed?
If so, please try to reproduce when running TB in Safe Mode.

Also, please try with a 1.5b build (1.5b1 was just released yesterday) or a
trunk (1.6a1) nightly build.
Yes, I am still experiencing the bug, using 1.0.6 (20050802), running on
Mepis/Debian, which is the latest version available from the Debian repo sites I
am aware of.

Tried installing the 1.5b from mozilla.org and was not successful. After
extracting and cd to the extract directory, got the following errors:

# ./thunderbird
(thunderbird-bin:4584): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

# ./thunderbird-bin
./thunderbird-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libmozjs.so: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory
I also have this problem (thunderbird 1.0.6, windows 2000) but not with all emails.
It's often happen when there are several atachements and when the first one is .eml corresponding to a forwarded message as attachement.

In fact when I forward the email, in the compose window the only attachement I can see is the .eml.

But if I send this email, when I receive it all the attachements are here, but I couldn't see them from the compose window
I'm seeing this on OSX too. seems to be an issue w/ some msgs, but not others. maybe the repro case, for me, is double fwds. meaning, someone fwds me a msg, then when I fwd that msg to someone else, the attachement doesn't get attached.
yea, the double fwd case is 100% reproducible for me.

When a forwarded message has its own attachments, those attachments are shown
in the attachment panel of the forward, alongside the forwarded message (the
.EML) itself; see bug 35587. But when the forward is itself forwarded-inline, or edited-as-new, the compose window shows only the top-level attachment --
that is, the original forwarded message.

Given that I think the current undifferentiated display of attachments from all levels of nesting is a bug, I'm not inclined to think that *this* is a bug.

Also note that, with trunk builds, it's now possible to open the forwarded message into its own message window and then forward that message directly
(see bug 204350). If you Forward Inline (or Edit as New) that message, then
the attachments will appear as expected, altho any commentary added by the original forwarder will not be included, of course.

Jon Roland, is the symptom described by comment 4 the same issue that you are encountering, or did you open this for a different situation?
It appears to be the same situation. I forward inline, so for me there should only be one level of attachment. But it does not always happen. I find myself having to save the attachments, then re-attaching them in the forward.

If in fact you are seeing the same symptom as comment 4, then reattaching the saved attachments is causing you to send messages with two copies of each attachment. The "problem" is that the compose window only *displays* the .EML attachment (the message that was forwarded to you), where the message displayed shows the .EML and its (nested) attachments. However, those attachments *are* included in the message when you send it -- and if you view the message you send -- an inline-forward of an attach-forward of a message containing attachments -- you will see the .EML and its attachments.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Select a message with an attachment (send yourself one if necessary).
2) Forward-as-attachment to yourself.
3) When the forward is received, forward-inline to yourself. In the compose window, view the attachment panel.
4) Send the forward-inline. When the message arrives, view it.

Actual results:
3) Only the .EML attachment (original message) is seen.
4) The .EML and its attachments are seen.

Expected results:
3 *and* 4) The .EML and its attachments are seen.

I resolved this same issue by changing my SMTP server from Road Runner to google's gmail! Go Thunderbird!

I am having the exact same issue.

I suspect that you are looking at the wrong bug; the problem this bug is about is also present in 1.0.x. You probably are looking for bug 315625, for which there is a fix already if you want to get a nightly build; or, wait for
1.5.0.2.

I had a case like this today, using 2.0.0.6. Attachments disappeared when forwarding a received message. I attached the attachments manually and sent the message successfully. Next I tried to forward the sent message and the attachments remained attached. This suggests that the problem may have to do with the way the sending email client attaches files to messages.

Still repro. At step 3 composing phase I see only the .eml, but when it arrives, it shows the attachment as well.
