(I've seen this for some time, at least)

My setting is "Move (my IMAP) Junk messages to (POP3=local) Junk Folder"

1. Start MailNews
2. IMAP messages are retrieved, Junk Filter activates (and does its work)
3. Select Inbox
3a. First, the unread/non-junk messages appear,
3b. Second, the junked messages appear ... they are marked as read, but not as
junk :-(

This usually happens with multiple Junk messages;
while 1(+!?) incoming junk message which arrives while MailNews is already
active does get marked as Junk.

From bug 261297 comment 8, I read "the situation happened when underlying
database for IMAP folder was not open" ... that could be an hint !?

(nightly) (W98SE)

Note:
This time, there was only 1 junk out of 2 messages:
it got junk status in both IMAP and local folders.

(IMAP: read, deleted and junk; local: unread and junk.)
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050724 SeaMonkey/1.0a]
(nightly) (W98SE)

This time: 2 Junk out of 2 messages, and got the bug.

But I think the trigger is to display the Inbox folder before the messages are
retrieved the first time:

New Steps:
1. Launch MailNews
2. While Get Msgs on Startup starts, display the IMAP Inbox folder
3. A this step, the 2 Junk messages go directly to the local/POP3 folder, never
showing up in the IMAP folder.
4. Display another folder, then come back to IMAP Inbox
4. At this step, the 2 (Junk) messages are retrieved "again" from the IMAP
server: this time they show up, read and deleted, but without the Junk status.

Maybe, they should not show up at step 4 ??
Maybe, they should have shown up at step 3 ? (Issue with folder being "locked"
by display ??)
Or are they not getting the Junk status at step 3 !? (MailNews or server fault ??)

(I'll try and get an IMAP log...)
Summary: On MailNews startup, IMAP messages deleted/moved to Junk local/POP3 folder do not get the Junk status in the IMAP folder → On MailNews startup with folder displayed, IMAP messages deleted/moved to Junk local/POP3 folder do not get the Junk status in the IMAP folder

This time, I saw the Junk messages appear, be marked as Junk, then disappear on
first folder display;
on second folder display, they are back, without the Junk status.

Can you tell me from this log what the problem is: MailNews client or IMAP
server ?
Thanks.
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050217] (<-- 1.8b1 !)

First attempt:
Junk message marked "read, deleted, junk" in IMAP Inbox and staying there (when
moved to local folder) on first folder display.

Possible regression then: I'll try and reproduce...
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050217] (<-- 1.8b1 !)
(W98SE)

This time, 2 Junk messages, and the bug: no regression.

Previous comment: either a timing effect, or because there was only 1 junk
message !?
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716] (release) (W98SE)

Multiple messages (Junk or not), all appeared at the same time,
then this bug.

(I'll try ThunderBird...)
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050724 SeaMonkey/1.0a]
(nightly) (W98SE)

This time, I got the bug (with 2 Junk) even without displaying the folder before
letting the messages be retrieved.

The steps may vary a little, but its easy enough to reproduce.
[Mozilla Thunderbird, version 1.0+ (20050319)] (nightly) (W98SE)

No bug with |Delete = "Remove it immediatly"| !
I'll have to try again with "Mark it as deleted", which I use in MAS/SM.

Same bug confirmed in TB with MIAD option !
Easier way to reproduce:
Disable auto-check on startup;
display the Inbox folder;
Manually "Get Msgs".
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.2pre) Gecko/20070217 SeaMonkey/1.1.1] (nightly) (W2Ksp4)
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9a3pre) Gecko/20070216 SeaMonkey/1.5a] (nightly) (W2Ksp4)

I tried to reproduce for a few days with Trunk then 1.8.1 branch, but couldn't.

I'll try (soon-)obsolete 1.7.0 and 1.8.0 branch...
wouldn't this be a front end issue, rather than networking?
I chose Networking because it seemed IMAP specific.
(You can change the component, if that was not appropriate.)
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8.0.10pre) Gecko/20070219 SeaMonkey/1.0.8] (nightly) (W2Ksp4)

On 1.8.0 branch, I reproduced the "not-listed then re-listed" marked-as-junk messages in an IMAP Inbox once (only);
but I did not reproduce the "deleted but not marked-as-junk" part of this bug.

Then, based on this short(!) test(s), I looks like the former part was fixed in 1.8(.1) branch and Trunk. [Possibly related to the general (IMAP) handling of deletion/deleted messages.]
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.13) Gecko/20060414] (release) (W2Ksp4)

I give up testing 1.7 branch, as I'm now using the Global Inbox feature, which was not supported yet.
