Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; nl-NL; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050226 Firefox/1.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; nl-NL; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050226 Firefox/1.0.1

installation terminates without warning or error if Internet Explorer 5+ is not
installed on the pc prior to installation of firefox

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.run the official mozilla firefox installation package

Actual Results:
installation process starts. Some visual indication that the process is actually
running appears, but the procces terminates before the appearance of the wizard
proper.

Expected Results:
succesfull installation of firefox without having to install Internet Explorer
5+ first.
I guess this is related to Bug 212363. You need some newer DLLs for FF/Moz which
for example ship with IE 5+. Which Service Pack do you have? It should work
with NT4.0 SP6a.
I am the colleague of the original reporter. First: the bug was not reported
from the problem PC, but from his own, so the Firefox/1.0.1 is not correct. The
problem occurred with the 1.0.6 installer. I have also run into it myself with
Firefox 1.0.4.

The PC harddrive was formatted during the installation process. NT4 was
installed, OEM drivers installed next, and finally SP6a-NL was applied. The
attempt to install Mozilla happened after that, so the problem does occur with
SP6a. The problem went away after installing Internet Explorer 6 SP1.
Any error message?
Version: unspecified → 1.0 Branch
Sorry for the delay. I rigged up another NT4 PC to test with but the video
drivers were a bit recalcitrant.

There are no error messages displayed on screen. The installer displays the
decompression progress bar and exits silently as soon as the "verifying
integrity" message appears. I did find the following in c:\temp\ns_temp after
the attempt to install (and that seems to be the only trace left behind) :
