User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050723 Firefox/1.0+ Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050723 Firefox/1.0+ When clicking on the audio speaker icon at the right hand menu bar to "listen to the verse of the day" the window comes up "you have chosen to open BibleGatewayAudio.smil which is smil 1.0 from http://www.biblegateway.com. What should Deer Park do with this file?" which isa good thing. However, I can't choose the proper application to open the file with, which is Windows Media Player, because the only option in the dropdown menu is Quicktime Player (default). Safari handles this automatically. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. on the URL, click on the audio speaker icon under the "verse of the day" in the right hand menu bar 2. the file is downloaded and the file manager window pops up 3. choose the "open with" drop down menu to see that there are no other options Actual Results: nothing. I finally went back to Safari to open and listen to the file on a daily basis since the workaround (save to disk, manually open Windows Media Player, then open and listen to the file from within the application) was too time consuming and tedious. Expected Results: given me the option of more applications to choose from
Note! The proper application to open this file is actually NOT Windows Media Player but Real One Player. However, there are many files that I access which do use Windows Media Player (see http://www.cyberqpons.com). So, why aren't I given more choices than just Quicktime?
I'm surprised this is listed as uncofirmed. It is a well known bug (on Mac forums) that Firefox cannot properly handle Real Audio files. Attempting to open a SMIL file will attempt to open it with QuickTime. It is impossible to select "RealOne Player" which is the correct application to open such files. There are no other alaternatives in the "open with dialog" and there is no way to change it in the preferences. This is true for both Firefox 1.0.6 and 1.5 beta 1. Please make this a higher priority item as it is a major usibility issue for Mac users!
