User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
Build Identifier:

Firefox opens but Home page failes to display and Menus do not work after
upgrading to 1.6. The update green circle appears on the open window and after
checking for updates shows the errors window with the following components:
Favorites Converter
Magpie
LinkVistior
paste and Go
open link in
opennewwindowfromhere
disable targets for downloads
syncMarks
firefox (default)

cannot unload any component as menus do not work

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:
Unusable even after uninstalling

Expected Results:
Menus to at least work to remove any components not updatable or uninstalling
removes any components so a reinstall is barebones.
Does this occur if you start firefox in safe mode:
kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode ?
Summary: Firefox opens but Home page failes to display and Menus do not work after upgrading to 1.6 → Firefox opens but Home page failes to display and Menus do not work after upgrading to 1.0.6
Please try the Safe Mode:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

I guess this is caused by an incompatible extension. If so, this bug is invalid.

Yes this does occur in safe mode.

I appreciate this is likely to be connected to an extension but, I cannot load
in safe mode which is where I guess I would be able to remove the offending
extension, nor can I uninstall then reinstall Firefox back to a clean start state.

If I uninstall Firefox, delete the directory under program files then reinstall
the same error occurs

In normal and safe mode Firefox opens but Home page fails to display and Menus
do not work. The update green circle appears on the open window and after
checking for updates shows the errors window with the following components:

Favorites Converter
Magpie
LinkVistior
paste and Go
open link in
opennewwindowfromhere
disable targets for downloads
syncMarks
firefox (default)
I have manage to resolve the problem by renaming C:\Documents and
Settings\<user_name>\Application Data\ Mozilla to Mozillax. Then when firefox
restarts it creates a new profile for the user. If necessary the bookmarks can
be imported from the renamed profile, any extension/themes will need to be reloaded.
