When PC harddisk in busy (e.g. BT in progress/quitting a game but not
completed-HD LED is flashing), change bookmarks content(e.g. delete a
bookmark/folder/, update the description and ENTER to confirm..), bookmarks page
& Firefox start to hang for a long time with HD LED keep ON. PC become v.slow
then(even firefox was killed). Reboot then PC ok, but Firefox not OK even in
launching. The bookmarks.html & bookmarks.bak files become in large size (over
16/32MB ea.). Re-install Firefox will not be ok. Recover the normal size
(320KB) bookmarks.html from backup, then firefox back to normal. Previous
version Firefox didn't have this problem.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.keep HD busy, eg. BT
2.browsing and edit the bookmark entry with bookmarks manager
3.IF fault happened, bookmarks.html file will be in large size (>16MB)

Actual Results:
1.PC response v. slow
2.Firefox cannot be use again, except bookmarks.html was recovered

Expected Results:
bookmarks.html & bookmarks.bak changed to large size, launch firefox again will
keep the HD led to ON for a long time and PC hang again.

no theme using, just default theme. No crash ID, but there is a message
prompted that a javescript will causing PC slow, requesting to stop it (one
occasion only).

Hi, is me again..Bruce. I've just got some more finding about the strange
bookmarks. I check the bookmarks.html size is 808KB before launching Firefox,
then start to browsing with Firefox (NO bookmarks related using at all but with
BT at same time) for about half an hour. Do you know what's happened?! ^^ The
bookmarks.html size increase to 1.03MB when I closed Firefox!!!! Funny... maybe
HD busy + bookmarks manager using would just increase the rate of size adding.
Ps. I'll try to install previous version Firefox, thanks.
Could be that new favicons were added to the bm file (the icons are saved inside
the file!).
Hi, Thanks your info, Ostgote! but I don't think that's the reason. I've tried
to open the large size bookmarks.html by notepad. I found the icon data you
said. However, the mainly problem is that there are v.lots of <HR>lines inside
(of course not my insert). Hope this INFO will help you, Firefox Engineer!!
Bruce, are you still able to reproduce this with a latest Firefox 2 or 3 release or nightly build?
If not, please close the bug as WORKSFORME.

Thanks!

I'm having similar issue. I'm running the latest Firefox version 2.0.0.7 on a Vista Ultimate machine. I have a roaming profile set up in a Windows Active Directory domain; Application Data folder is being redirected to a network share. My bookmark file is 3,828KB. When I try to add/delete bookmarks, Firefox hangs for 30 or so seconds and sometimes the 'Add Bookmark' window won't close after a minute or so. To test, I created a new profile on the same location. Everything works ok; adding and deleting profiles fast. Once I copied the old bookmark file to the new profile and run Firefox, it does the same thing again. Seems like Firefox is having problems reading big bookmarks files.
There are bugs filed for comment 5. No other comments as to the reproducibility of this bug. works for me
