According to chriss, "We don't have RSA in the splash screen for 4.7 so I think we're OK for beta. But we should definitely fix it by RTM for the final commercial product if a contract requires it. " The new RSA logo can be found at http://www.rsasecurity.com/brandweb/stratpartners/rsa_secured.html

Here is an important clarification of the requirement. What the contract actually says in section 4b8 is "... there will be a prominent display of the RSA LOGO in such a way that the end user will see it at least once in the normal course of the default operation of [the browser]. Examples of such displays include, but are not limited to, ..." (not quoting here) a) splash screen b) where security info is displayed about the creation or receipt of an encrypted message (email, I guess). c) Whenever security info is displaed about a signed object. We just have to find SOMEPLACE where most people will see it when they fire up Navigator and/or Messenger.
Chris McAfee was working on this last night. Reassigning this to him. (The installer does not have a splash screen .bmp file)

splash screen is native stuff. ssu? I was only doing RSA for the about: page. Unix 4.x brings up about: for every startup for this very reason, this might be an alternative to the splash screen requirement.

I don't do splash screens. I'm not sure who does either. maybe a fe person?
Adding Michaell to the cc: line and removing my name, given change in roles.
This is not an installer problem. Setting component to Browser-General and resetting bug.

Changing component to XPApps, since I don't think Asa wants to fix this.

German, Should we be putting this logo in the splash screen?!? If so, can get us the new splash screen artwork somehow and then re-assign the bug back to me.

As far as the Netscape 6 Splash Screen is concerned, I recommend we do not have it in the splash screen. This logo does not describe the main function of the product nor does it have it anything with the Netscape Corporate Identity. Also where will it end? Will we have a Made with Macromedia logo in there, or brought to you by InstallShield? For Netscape 6 the Splashscreen like the desktop icon and the throbber and some other areas are solely reserved for Netscape Logo and Representation. Other companies logo should go in an about version of the screen or some such like we had in 4.x.

I would also image that the Mozilla community has little interest in carrying other companies logos in the Mozilla splash screen but I can't speak for the community.

I concur with German's viewpoint. Per Nelson's comments 3/3/00, the RSA logo can more suitably be placed somewhere related to security, rather than on the general Netscape splash screen.
