User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i586; en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050711 Firefox/1.0.5 SUSE/1.0.5-3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i586; en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050711 Firefox/1.0.5 SUSE/1.0.5-3

I believe that the problem is with Gecko, and not Firefox itself, as the exact
same effect was also observed from within several versions of the Mozilla Suite.

The problem is as follows:

I produced a simple HTML page to be used as the menu page within an HTML
frameset. This page consists of my cartoon caricature logo together with several
PNG buttons aligned horizontally using the <DIV ALIGN="CENTER"></DIV> tag.

Whenever I display this page either by itself or within an HTML frameset using
any Mozilla browser, I notice the bottom button is rendered slightly to the
right of the buttons directly above it. This problem persists even when I delete
the bottom button from the HTML code; although there would be one less button,
the bottom button would still be out of alignment with the others by the exact
same amount.

I also removed the javascript code within this page to convert the rollover
buttons into simple static buttons, but the problem still persisted.

However I found that this page was rendered with its buttons in perfect
alignment within Konqueror (Linux), Netscape (Windows 98), and IE even with the
rollover buttons enabled.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
View the page in any Mozilla browser.
Actual Results:
Same as above.

Expected Results:
The rendering engine (i.e., Gecko) should have horizontally centered all
graphical images on the page. See attachments.
Notice the bottom button labelled "Website Feedback"; it is out of alignment
with the other buttons.
This is how this Web page is supposed to appear.

This is the raw HTML source file for this Web page.

This file is in plain text so that developers could see that there are no
errors in the HTML code. DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE OR CHANGE ITS MIME TYPE!

This is the HTML source file for this Web page.

This attachment was given a MIME type of text/html by mistake. It should have
been given a mime type of text/plain in order to display the raw HTML code for
this page so that developers could see that there are no errors within it.

Generally files are set as html so they can be viewed by clicking on them.
Selecting the edit option or using the browser view source allows the source to
be viewed.

Layout bugs should be tested with a trunk build. Can you please test with a
trunk build from:
ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk

I did not supply the button graphics, so if you click on the file set as html,
you will only get the ALT attributes of the buttons (i.e., text describing the
buttons), not the buttons themselves. ALT attributes are only displayed when a
browser is incapable of rendering graphics (i.e., in the case of Lynx), or the
browser is configured to not render them, or on some browsers, if the mouse
pointer is hovering over a graphic (unfortunately, not so for any Mozilla
product). To allow only ALT attributes to be displayed would result in
confusion. I would therefore recommend that this file's mimetype remain as
text/plain in order to prevent this from occurring.

I would have downloaded the latest trunk build, but unfortunately, the only
ones that are available for Linux are for the i686 platform. I am using SuSE
9.0 Pro compiled for the i586 platform; which is the default build which SuSE
distributed to maintain backward compatibility with older Pentiums (although
my CPU is an AMD K6-2, and therefore capable of functioning as a 686). If I
try to download and install a trunk build, I will likely find that my
libraries are incompatible. However, if the trunk build could be doctored to
run on an i586 platform, as my firefox and thunderbird builds from SuSE were,
then I could run it on my machine. Until this is done, someone else would have
to perform this task. Sorry!

I strongly suggest that you update to Firefox 3.6.3 or later, update your plugins (flash, adobe, etc.), and retest in a new profile. If you still see the issue with the updated Firefox, please post here. Otherwise, please close as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME
