If thunderbird automatically checks for emails and user checks for mails at this moment, this could cause trouble with mailservers. So simply deactivate getmail button in that case! Reproducible: Always

Disabling the button while gettting mail was discussed in bug 140741, but it's not really what that bug is about. Confirming.

Just a small thought for both this and bug 140741. I think I know what the problem is and was wondering if disabling the Get Mail button when the Stop button is active, and then when the Stop button is de-activated, then the Get Mail button is made active. This way it will keep the user from pressing the Get mail button when Thunderbird is aready checking for mail, possibly screwing with the present connect to a server. Just a thought...

thanks, I want it this way - but my English isn't very well...so I had trouble
to explain it.
Additional thought:
Getmail and Stop button should be combined:
If you click on getmail, getmail button changes into stop-button (the
description and functionality of the button changes).
After checking for mail is complete, the getmail button appears again.

Seems that nobody is interested in this 2 year old report. I close it.

(In reply to comment #7) > Seems that nobody is interested in this 2 year old report. How do you arrive at that conclusion? There aren't any comments that people don't care, and you don't claim any other evidence (e.g, that it was discussion in some other forum). Additionally, I don't see any rationale for dismissing the bug report. At least in SeaMonkey, the UI does not have a reliable way to indicate that mail is being retrieved. (Reporting in the status bar is buggy when multiple tasks are updating it.) > I close it. That is irresponsible. Mozilla's bug-handling process is broken (very poor quality) if you can close a bug report with no reasonable justification (that it was fixed, that the reported behavior wasn't a bug or a requested feature is undesirable).
