User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050802 Camino/0.9a2+ Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050802 Camino/0.9a2+ I have noticed that it is nearly impossible to write a posting on forums running YaBB SE (http://www.medi-board.com for instance). Viewing the topics and logging into an account is fine, but attempting to post a reply is causing serious trouble. There is a significant latency between the keyboard input and the result on screen, often interruped by beachballs. The same site mentioned above is running perfectly with other browsers. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Go to a YaBBSe Forum like http://www.medi-board.com 2.Attempt to post a reply Actual Results: Huge input latency, beachballs, performance issues all around! Expected Results: Quickly respond to the keyboard input

Philippe, could you try the 0804 build and see if it's any better? This is probably another case of bug 301774.

Most likely. (Fixing summary.)
Summary: Slow performance and beachballs while entering a pot reply on YaBB SE Forums → Slow performance and beachballs while entering a post reply on YaBB SE Forums

I have tried it with 08.04 and if fixed the isuue for about 90%. Beachballs have disappeared, but there is still some slight input latency, but it has become much better too.

90% of what? There are still other things that can be done to further improve the text field experience. See the dependencies on the bug I referenced. You need to register to post on the site you cited. Could you provide a more accessible test case? Are you noticing something wrong on that site in particular with the 0804 or 0805 build that you don't see in other textareas? For example, https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=178892 .
With image.animation_mode set to once, it's useable but still a little laggy (probably our friend the caret); with i.a_m set to normal, Camino 20050808 essentially hangs for me (1.33 GHz G4), sucking 85-95% CPU. Sample coming. May well be our other perf bugs, though. I registered this account to get in (thanks to Google Translate): caminotest 1lWWD6X1aF

There's quite a bit of tiling happen here. Try with this build: http://www.smfr.org/downloads/camino/Camino_20050808_quartz_tiling.zip and let me know how it is.

I have also experienced this problem, with the message board at www.sweetaddy.com, which use vBulletin. The Camino_20050808_quartz_tiling.zip build successfully fixed it.
The tiling build seems to have *greatly* improved performance on the URL in the URL field. Responsiveness with animation enabled in the tiling build (50-75% CPU) matches the perf *without* animation in normal nightlies, and responsiveness with animation disabled in the tiling build is smooth (10-15% CPU).

So is all that's left here bug 166932 (by way of 280982)? When I have animated images turned off, typing is not a problem. Dupe or depends?
