Which version of Thunderbird is this bug filed against?

Have you verified that Windows is configured with a default browser? What
happens if, in the Start|Run command field, you enter a link such as
 <http://kb.mozillazine.org/Setting_Your_Default_Browser> ?
If nothing happens here, the problem is with your system configuration.

Do mailto: links work?

From reporter via email:

> I have have checked and find Firefox is my default browser. When I change
> default browsers the links still do not work.
> When I email the message with the links to myself and open it in Netscape mail

> I do not understand the instruction to insert the link in the start run field.
> Is that the start run on the desk top?

Richard Finley: please do not respond to questions in a bug by email. I am not
your technical support contact.

In response to the last question: Yes, Start|Run on the desk top.

Incidentally: the address on the email you sent to me is invalid, my attempt at
a reply bounced.
This email has many links of the form mailto:twincitiespromo@theonion.com?Subject=... that Thunderbird 1.5rc1 fails to open a compose window for when you click on them. I have not tried this in other versions.
Added an example email that exhibits this behavior.
I'm seeing this too, in:

"Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051201 Thunderbird/1.5" - Build ID: 2005120110
"Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051201 Firefox/1.5" - Build ID:2005120103

which are set as default mailer and default browser respectively. Clicking a link in an email in TB does nothing.

Workaround: With "Launchy" extension, click right on link then "Launchy -> Open Link in Firefox" opens it.

Clicking links in Thunderbird 2.0.0.16 or the latest Shredder nightlies WFM. Both on WinXP and Mac Leopard.
