I click Set current page as home page, and it does not set it. i go back to see
if it's saved in the settings, it isn't. no matter how i set it, the setting
still fails to be saved.

Try using a fresh profile
Summary: I can not set my home page. → I can not set my home page.
same results. i added a profile and left the name at the default new profile
name, "default user". it still would not save it. 
Have you tried a build without MultiZilla yet?

Could you verify whether this problem occurs on a recent version of SeaMonkey or nightly build (http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/) please?
