Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6
When opening a new browser window, placement is typically offset somewhat down
and right from the previously opened window (which is normal). However, when
either the bottom or right edges are reached, window placement does not properly
cycle back to the top or left (respectively). All other browsers (including
previous Mozilla-based browsers) generally cycle their new window placement,
i.e. if the current window touches the right edge (or bottom edge), the next
window will start from the left edge (or top edge). This does not occur on
Firefox 1.0.6 on MacOS X (10.3.9).
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a single window. Place its right edge at the very right edge of the
screen (i.e. right-justify the window).
2. Open a new window.
Alternatively:
1a. Open a new window, with its bottom edge touching the bottom edge of the screen.
2a. Open a new window
Actual Results:
2. The new window will open ALSO right-justified, i.e. with its right edge
touching the right edge of the screen.
2a. The new window will open "bottomed," i.e. with its bottom edge touching the
bottom of the screen.
(If you COMBINE 2 and 2a, i.e. the window is in the bottom right corner, then
ALL new windows will open right on top of one another. Not a good situation.)
Expected Results:
When the current window edge touches the right (or bottom) edge of the screen,
the next new window should cycle back to the left (or top) edge, rather than
staying to the right (or bottom).
While Firefox heavily promotes tabbed browsing, many users prefer to open new
windows. Window placement should cycle when reaching a terminal edge such as
the right or bottom. This would prevent the extreme scenario where all windows
open in the bottom-right, on top of one another, and would also be much better
visually.
Personally, my preference is to have my primary open window on the right edge,
so new windows always open on the left edge. Unfortunately, with this bug, new
windows also open on the right edge, totally covering my previous window.
