User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 Cutting a portion of bank statement information from bank web page: pasting to Word, now retains formatting if copied directly from web page; however, if select "Printable Version," paste loses all formatting. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open bank web page; select "printable version" 2. Highlight a portion of the line items (i.e., today and yesterday only) 3. Copy highlighted text, then paste into Word. Actual Results: Showed text only -- lost all columnar formatting. I decline to paste in actual results due to confidentiality. Expected Results: Should have retained columnar formatting. I don't use FireFox as my default browser because of this bug. I access a number of banking statements every day, and cut and paste the most recent transactions into Word (to save printing unnecessary/duplicate text). It is too frustrating to deal with unformatted results because it takes too much time to decipher the transaction ...

Can you attach an example of an HTML page where this happens?

If you copy the middle two rows, pasting into Word does not preserve the table formatting. If you select the entire page with Ctrl+A, the formatting is preserved.

Tested with MS Word 2002 on WinXP, and today's MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH build of Firefox.

There is a workaround available, noted in bug 137450. IF you highlight the table by a CTRL-click on the table border and then copy/paste, formatting is preserved. This does not, however, solve the general clipboard problem where Firefox fails to always preserve formatting from web pages.

This reproduces in FireFox 4b12. Go to about:support, select the Hardware Acceleration table at the bottom, press Ctrl+C, open Notepad, press Ctrl+V - One line of text with no spaces between the cells/new lines between the rows.
