User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 I am on a dialup, using Earthlink. This is the fifth occurance. All of the mail in my inbox received since 4 Aug 04 has suddenly disappeared. When this happened in the past, it was usually mail covering a shorter calendar period, i.e. from a couple of weeks worth to six months worth - always the lastest emails. The emails it would then return within one week to six months later. I keep business associated emails that involve ongoing problems/situations - usually between 50 to 80 messages. This is the first time I experienced it since replacing a Seagate Barracuda drive that I was suspecting of being the problem. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. This appears to be a random problem and I don't think there is a specific set of keystrokes to envoke the event. 2. 3.

Filing bugs against 3 month old builds is unacceptable. If you can reproduce this in 1.7.11, then you may reopen this.

received email from mjmazda@ip.net stating that filing a bug report against a 3 month old version "was unacceptable" - period - no additional info. while looking through the information at "mozilla.gunnars.net" i am under the impression that 1.7.8 is a rather current build, if not current. if i am using an older build that has flaws that have been corrected, why not tell to to update and give a clue how to retrieve the information that i have lost? i find mjmazda's response to be unacceptable - is he/she telling me i should be using ie or safari?

The Mac link is Mac OS X, English (15.0MB) http://download.mozilla.org/?product=suite-1.7.11&os=osx&lang=en-US There is also a link to FAQs, a bit dated, but still full of useful information. http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.5/faq/profile.html http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.5/faq/general.html#advocacy For support please visit the support forums at mozillazine. Bugzilla isn`t for support, but for work on bugs. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=40 Have a look at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ They've got a link to http://www.mozilla.org/support/ and tell Report a bug - latest release only! Why this? It's simple. If you can give steps to repeat, working always, often, or in one of ten tests, someone having the same OS can confirm or tell it's working for him. If bug is also seen in current trunk or release, it is a valid bug. This bug can't be reproduced in trunk nor latest release, as there are no steps to repeat, so no need to fix it. If you can't give steps to repeat, that's no problem, as long as a lot of other people are seeing this too and suddenly somebody finds steps to reproduce the bug. But please tell me how can I tell you this bug isn't seen in a current build? I don't have a Mac, so I can't test, but others have, and they can't test too, because of lack of steps to repeat... You are seeing this bug for months, others didn't. It would be a waste of time to search when this bug was fixed, if ever. What I don't understand in this bug is, how comes mail is gone, and suddenly reappears. As I don't know Earthlink, I assume you have some sort of IMAP or webmail account, not POP3, and I assume the temporary loss of mail is on the serverside. I only can assume, as you didn't specify the type of mail account. Do you have multiple profiles? May also be the reason for not seeing mail, when you temporarily are using another profile. And please read https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/page.cgi?id=bug-writing.html And reopen this bug, and fill it with information, if you see the bug in a current release (Mozilla 1.7.11) or in the trunk (Seamonkey 1.0a)
