Build Identifier: Used the Mac trunk build from 8/8/2005

I was able to download my new email. If I attempted to reply to an email,
clicking Reply simply opened up a blank email without the previous email quoted.
Instead the new email is blank with no email address or message filled in. It is
as if I clicked on Compose instead of Reply. After I discovered that Reply did
not function I tried Reply All and Forward. These buttons also did not function.

I went to close SeaMonkey and it crashed. Relaunching SeaMonkey crashed the
application and caused the MacOS X to freeze requiring me to reboot to correct
the computer.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click on an email to open it.
2. Click on reply.

Actual Results:  
When I attempted to reply to an email a blank email opened. When I closed this
window I discovered that Reply All and Forward were unresponsive to all mouse
clicks. Closing the SeaMonkey application caused it to crash. Relaunching the
application also crashes Seamonky and MacOS X requiring a reboot of the OS.

Expected Results:  
I expected to reply to the email.

I am running Mac OS X 10.3.9. I do not have the offical Build Identifier for
SeaMonkey since I did not want to run this nightly any longer than I had to to
identify this bug as this build appears to be very unstable. I am torn between
setting this bug to "blocker" or "critical" since using email caused the browser
to become so unstable I could no longer test with it.
I can't reproduce this with SeaMonkey 2005080809 on Mac OS 10.3.9. 'Reply' &
'Reply All' works fine.

Any chance of a Talkback ID?
Sorry I forgot to record the talkback ID. If it means anything the SeaMonkey
Build from 7/8/05 works vey well using the same profile. I am not very keen to
test with this SeaMonkey version because it crashed my OS hard the other day and
I had to reboot. Maybe the bug was unique to 8/8 2005 and is no longer present
in the build from 8/9/2005.

The Talkback ID should be seen if you start talkback from inside the SeaMonkey
application you used when you crashed: Right-click (Ctrl-click) on the
application icon and Choose "Show package contents", navigate to "Contents -->
MacOS --> Components --> Talkback": double-click on the Talkback icon.

Please note the talkback crash data was generated when I quit SeaMonkey after
atempting to use "Reply, Reply All. and Forward" in the Mail application. I
believe the crash upon quiting is related to the bug in the Mail application.

I wonder if you still see this with a current nightly?
I have the same pattern using SM 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 on WinXP Home, SP2.  95% of the time Reply, Reply All, or Forward produce a blank window with only the "to" field completed. And the window is frozen so cannot add text.

Work around is to minimize the window and repeat operation.   (Then don't forget to close the minimized window!)

Apparently this extremely serious bug has persisted for almost a year and a solution cannot be found?  What % of the users are affected?  Since it occurs to me practically every time, can I be of any assistance in locating the cause?

I am the reporter of this bug. I would close this bug since I have not ecountered this mail bug for so long I forgot I had filed it. I won't close this bug since Miles in comment 7 is still encountering this bug. Miles reports seeing this bug using WinXP.

I am using SeaMonkey 1.0.2 and MacOS X 10.3.9 G3-350Mhz and have not experienced this bug for a long time (>7 months).

If this bug is not encountered on the Mac I wonder if this bug should still be listed as a Mac bug. Should this bug closed and another bug opened indicating the OS as WinXP since this bug iis no longer being seen on the Mac? By relisting the bug under WinXP the bug might gain a faster resolution.

I see this bug with Seamonkey 1.02 on Linux.  Seamonkey hasn't crashed on me, but then I haven't tried to close the app when the bad Mail Composition window is up.  My work-around is to close the window (at which point Seamonkey asks me if I want to save the email, which is odd since I didn't type anything into it), shift-click on the Compose button, and then close that new Mail Composition window.  Then, when I press the Reply button again, everything's okay.

One clue to this bug: this screenshot is exactly how the window normally looks right before it displays the quoted message inside the text area.  So my guess is that the function which generates this window has detected some kind of error right before or during the loading of the quoted text, and has just aborted.
Paul: Does this bug still occur with a current SeaMonkey build?
Timur: The screen shot is a different issue AFAIK (it's already filed in Bugzilla). 
I have not seen this bug for such a long time that I forgot I had filed this bug. Using SeaMonkey 1.1.6 (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.9) Gecko/20071030 SeaMonkey/1.1.6 Mnenhy/0.7.5.0) I do not see this bug.
