User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0; en) Opera 8.02
Build Identifier: Thunderbird 1.0.6

Outlook Express should open with a new message window when emailing a file via
this method "Right Click -> Send To -> Mail Recipient" after changing the
default email client to back to Outlook Express, if Thunderbird was the default
client.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install Thunderbird 1.0.6
2.Change the default email client back to Outlook Express by either going to
Programs Menu in Internet Options, the Tools Menu in OE, or Set Program Defaults
and Access
3.Email a random file, by browsing to it, Right Click -> Send To -> Mail
Recipient.

Actual Results:
Thunderbird opens with a new message window

Expected Results:
Outlook Express should have opened with a new message window
I'm not sure how this is happening, because according to bug 26201, we don't
even associate *.eml files with Thunderbird.
Related to Core bug 178770?
Wilson Lee: the Internet Options "Programs" settings do not actually affect the
'default client' setting, which controls the MAPI setup. Set Program Access &
Defaults (from the Add Programs Control Panel) should make the settings, and if
I'm recalling correctly, so should the Tools menu item you mentioned from
Outlook Express.

I haven't gone back to play with this for a while, but the only times I've had a
problem getting one client or another to properly register itself was when I was
logged in without Admin privileges. (Even that has been inconsistent.)
However, you can't even run SPA&D without Admin privs, so it seems you know
about this already.

If you're willing to spend the effort to help debug this: install a copy of
RegMon <http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html> and create a log
of what happens when you run SPA&D to set Outlook as the default. Attach that
log to this bug (use the Create New Attachment link above).

Adam, that comment actually doesn't apply to this at all; but see bug 242959.
This is the Regmon log of switching Thunderbird to Outlook Express as the
default mail client.

xref bug 254262.

Since it appears I have to spend money to decode a .RAR file, I'm not going to
look at that log. Maybe you could try compressing it in a more widely accepted
standard?
