I'm not sure how this is happening, because according to bug 26201, we don't even associate *.eml files with Thunderbird.

Wilson Lee: the Internet Options "Programs" settings do not actually affect the 'default client' setting, which controls the MAPI setup. Set Program Access & Defaults (from the Add Programs Control Panel) should make the settings, and if I'm recalling correctly, so should the Tools menu item you mentioned from Outlook Express. I haven't gone back to play with this for a while, but the only times I've had a problem getting one client or another to properly register itself was when I was logged in without Admin privileges. (Even that has been inconsistent.) However, you can't even run SPA&D without Admin privs, so it seems you know about this already. If you're willing to spend the effort to help debug this: install a copy of RegMon <http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html> and create a log of what happens when you run SPA&D to set Outlook as the default. Attach that log to this bug (use the Create New Attachment link above). (In reply to comment #1) > I'm not sure how this is happening, because according to bug 26201, we don't > even associate *.eml files with Thunderbird. Adam, that comment actually doesn't apply to this at all; but see bug 242959.

xref bug 254262. Since it appears I have to spend money to decode a .RAR file, I'm not going to look at that log. Maybe you could try compressing it in a more widely accepted standard?

Reporter, does the issue still occur in the latest supported Thunderbird version 2.0.0.12 or trunk nightlies?
