It could be that Sunbird is not using the new event dialog yet. I saw this bug in Lightning.

I agree that there should be some sort of feedback, but I think this bug is dangerous enough (on the inadvertant data-loss front) that I'd like to check the patch in as-is now, and then leave this bug upon so that we can cons up another patch for that.

Basic dataloss patch checked in.
Summary: new event dialog allows end time to be before start time → new event dialog should show feedback when end time < start time
