Not sure of all of original poster's ideas of "messy," but one thing I noticed is that email addresses remain enclosed in < > tags, instead of their being converted to < and >, leaving the To and From address invisible in a web browser if there is no actual named recipient/sender.

Comment 2 is the dupe; but see also bug 74424, bug 164154, bug 227872, perhaps others. When searching to be sure you haven't seen this bug before, don't look *only* under Thunderbird -- all of these bugs are Core issue, mostly under MailNews:Backend. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 221348 ***
